Update: Greed, Shame and Growth (Patreon)

I dreaded making this post, because I don't like talking money, or about myself, but I gotta. There's a change I might make in the future and as time passes it seems more and more likely I will make it. This change concerns how my content is distributed.

First and foremost, I'm not idle, working on stuff as previously mentioned on Discord (if you're a sub, do check it out, I post my WIPs there). Saeko and Seong anim first, and a DVa and Male anim is in the pipeline. I talked about making this post there as well, about the moral dilemna I wanted to face, but more on that soon.

Had to take a break over the holiday, because I needed a physical/mental reset, and because I got sick. I'm weak, I'm pretty much paper thin.

On to the serious stuff now. The first moral problem I had was over some extreme content I wanted to make, but I've mostly solved that one.

NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT PART

The second is a bit more divisive. Some time ago, I was asked for an archive for exclusive stuff, which I responded with "I am working on building one, but I need a file hosting website that won't ban me for NSFW content, while having the ability to make link expires". At that point, my plan was to build an archive that only active subs could access, no lies, but eventually I realised how it would conflict with my bundles on Affect3DX.

I'm not a massive artist, I don't get people that supports me even when I'm not posting content for whatever reason (well I have some, not gonna shade them like that), people aren't donating money to me, they're paying to access something. What I do get, is people paying the minimum amount possible to get all the content I accumulated/produced over time.

All is fair of course, I was aware of the possibility when I first opened Subtar and Patreon, and I thought I would never reach the amount of support where this option of monetising my content would be possible. Especially when I didn't think that people would actually be eager to buy my content.

With the world changing like it is, I can't afford to let someone get a quick sub, grab everything, unsub without even leaving a message or a like. I rely on this whole operation now, so this year's lesson is learning to be a little more selfish.

I might choose to unlink any and all animations available in those bundles, and redirect towards the artpacks. And that's probably the decision I will take. The good news is I won't have to change my tiers since I never actually promised access to old content. The bad news is it screws new people from discovering old stuff.

Among all the things that stress me out, this discussion was high on my list of anxiety, because I really hate the money talk, but, you kinda need money to survive, so I might have to be a little more unfair to people this year and seems a more cash hungry.

In other news, last years resolution was getting into shape, or at least get healthier. Started working out weekly, 4 days a week, and eating more, and I have since gained 10kg, and then lost a fourth of that to getting sick. I look less like Gollum, and more like a goblin now. This year, I want to continue this good little habit, and be more successful in this art endeavour.

By the end of this year, I want to have the confidence to call myself an artist, and to call what I make "Art".
