I'm so happy to be an early Kaiji supporter no matter how long it took to win. That is the definition of Kaiji. Survival under the Ultimate gamble. There is more manga where Kaiji's story continues, and I really do recommend reading it because it's just as good if not better storywise as it goes on...the big problem is you REALLY need to understand Mahjong to know whats going on at all in the gamble making it a high bar to entry for western readers. BUT YOU GUYS ABSOLUTELY NEED TO WATCH Tonegawa's Middle Manager Blues after Kaiji, its the best. Its a comedy show but it works and the OP is a funky af banger.

The scanlations around for part 3 that I know of have very elaborate TL notes and links to term explanations that cover all your bases so you can honestly pick it up as you go. No need to learn ahead of time. 17 steps is very likely the least complex entry point for mahjong-centered narrative.
