I love NGNL but I read a couple of the next novels, and unfortunately, I think it would be quite difficult to adapt a second season, partly because of the way they ended this one, but mostly because volumes 4 and 5 of the novel go a little...um all out on the sexualized content eve compared to what is here and then put those aspects into fundamental plot points

I can honestly not think of a single anime that has adapted worse things than the volume 4/5 of NGNL that is not outright Porn/Hentai. I like NGNL, but the author went real hard in those volumes, and once I read them it was clear that this was an obvious reason the show never got a second season.

I cant remember anything particularly bad in those volumes. Certainly not as bad as goblin slayer ep 1

Golin slayer is actually a good example/ counterargument but then again I never watched that and specifically avoided it because of the content. It seems like that one is more obviously mature content though, instead of game show that then took things super far into sexual explicitness.
