Lemme explain a bit on the tournament system. There won't be any spoilers, but if you want to find it out on your own, then you might as well skip this bit. * * * * * * * * * * Interhigh and the Spring tournament (Harukou) have approximately the same systems. First come the prefecture preliminaries (Miyagi is a prefecture). Only teams from the same prefecture play against each other. Prefecture preliminaries have a few rounds, and the amount of games you have to take part in depends on your team's results in the recent competitions. Karasuno got into top-16 at the Interhigh preliminaries, so they get to miss the first rounds of the Harukou preliminaries. If you get into top-8 or top-4 at the Interhigh, you miss even more rounds of the Harukou preliminaries and enter the tournament later. This way the weaker teams of approximately the same level play against each other first. Both tournaments are single elimination. And since there're like 47 prefectures in Japan, only 1 team from each prefecture makes it to the national stage of the tournament (with just a couple of exceptions for hosting cities/Tokyo). Only 1 team from Miyagi can go to the national stage of the Spring Tournament, so Karasuno, Aobajousai, Shiratorizawa etc can't go together. They will have to face each other at some point, depending on how the tournament goes.

You should watch the part where teacher explains the preliminaries again. He literally says that if they win 2 matches tomorrow, they will go to the qualifiers in October to decide the "representitive TEAM" So only 1 team can represent Miyagi.

Btw there are 47 prefectures in Japan. Miyagi is 15th in terms of population. So it wouldn't make sense for them to send 8 teams.

Should we be excited or not, I don't know :D In the end Jacob said "Haikyuu is not this thing of "Oh no, tension! What's going to happen" because it's either they win or they lose and we kind of have an idea of which one it is so we're actually not wondering what's going to happen and then it just turns into a drag". But they will know who will win when they see the opening to the point where they play... you know. Haikyuu is still my favourite sports anime and the opening didn't change the way I enjoyed the tournament because I read the manga before that but we can't be sure if it will increase or decrease the hype for them. I do understand that he actually talked about sports anime that mainly focus on the games and that's what worried him before he started Haikyuu, but that's not how Haikyuu works so it may be fine.

You boys need to come down to NC I show you some real BBQ.

Finally managed to finish watching the discussion. Makes me happy that you enjoyed the barbecue scene that you‘d been looking forward to so much! The sequencing really is amazing, and all the interactions are just pure joy. Nekomata and Takeda discussing the close and far future was a really nice touch too, especially with that OST in the background. And Kuroo’s voice when he says “matane” really gets to me :”) They’re growing to be so much more than just mere rivals. Something I’d just like to mention: I can’t be 100% sure now since I don’t have a chance to check, but from what I remember, they didn’t have to do a lap of flying receives a dozen times - they had to do it literally dozens of times, because they played like a few dozens of sets in those few days. And Karasuno lost almost every time x) I feel like they had around 4 victories or so in the end, and Fukuroudani had like 60-70-something wins. Wish you guys to have an awesome barbecue sometime soon!

Thank you for that necessary BokuAka beginning. They are totally my favorite pairing :-D

I wish that when they're confused about something, they'd just re-watch that specific scene during the discussion, so they don't keep speculating about the wrong thing. It'd be easier to edit out the process of them finding the scene, and the discussion would be so much better. But, I don't mind it for Haikyuu too much since it's really character-focused. (It'd be great if they did this for shows like HxH, though, where understanding the world-building is a must to understand the story.) Fun discussion either way, and I'm glad they're so excited about Haikyuu!

They're a cute pairing. My favorites is DaiSuga & AsaNoya. That joke from Jacob had me rolling lol

And now we pretty much got nonstop matches. Haikyuu Hypuuuuu! And my favorite opening!

Prepackaged shipping. I'm dead! XD Jacob's pun and jokes were too sharp and on point this episode! And as far as how many times they did those dives or runs I think they lost like 62-64 matches... So.... Also, I think that moment with Tsukki's brother was back in his Middle School days. Because he says that even as bad as his thoughts on High School were, he already had experienced that 'moment' and so despite how he regretted his time at Karasuno, he couldn't stop playing. I could be wrong but I think he was in middle school when he 'got hooked'.

This episode made me want BBQ too. I'm not sure what picks I'd have for a top 4, since all meat is god, but yeah brisket is extremely top tier

Kuro Sun

The scene where Nishinoya got slapped is in season1 ep.8, the episode which Nishinoya and Asahi were first introduced.
