Edit: *Manga Spoiler* So no Donovan in the anime? In the manga, Guts was sold out by Gambino to be raped by one of the mercenaries, which explains why Guts has an aversion to physical contact by men in the second episode.

No. Gambino and his wife are not related to Guts at all. Shisu just took over raising Guts after they found him.

Just for additional context, the relationship and issues between Guts and Gambino is explored in greater depth in the manga, in a way they either could not or just did not choose to do in the anime

I'd like to thank the people who voted for Berserk. I liked it enough that I went ahead and watched the rest of the episodes and just finished volume 2 of the manga. I can't believe it took me so long to get into this story, I'm enjoying it a lot.

He's going to read it eventually, so we shouldn't be posting or discussing stuff that's only in the manga and not in the anime.

Agreed. It’s a lot darker so I get it, but it’s one of the longest running and solid manga’s out there and deserves more popularity/respect (especially in the form of a proper anime follow up, not that 3D abomination we got)
