Ahh, I remember the first time Hinata spiked with his eyes open. It was a beautiful moment :') I'm glad that they didn't just have him suddenly become unstoppable here. Mastering a technique like what the Little Giant does takes tons of practice, and Hinata being inconsistent and volatile at this point while trying it makes sense. Hinata does get better, just very slowly. It's only when comparing current manga Hinata with season 1 Hinata that you really notice.

The Small Giant's technique is not really a god-like ability though; it is sometimes called a wipe, or also a block-out, and it's a relatively common occurrence in volleyball, although not usually being a part is a "style" per se (it mostly happens when players try to avoid getting shut down by a block). And another thing — they do have 3 touches, but block touch doesn't count, so if they manage to receive properly, they can counter just as fine :) So libero doesn't have to send it over immediately, it's preferable to keep the ball on your side of the court. But block-outs are usually effective indeed, because if the ball heads out of bonds after ricochetting off the block, there's little chance that someone will be able to make it in time to save it. Great reaction as always, thank you guys! It was some great help to pass time at a very boring subject x)

Yay! As said, this is a very character driven story - what I love is that they don't try and introduce and tell us the characters stories all at once, it is fleshed out slowly and at a gradual pace, devoting time to each one naturally with great reactions and meshing well with the others. Great discussion guys! I also like how they made sure to address The Little Giant didn't start out amazing, it was in his latter part of the year that he developed into a beast.

2021-07-08 07:09:45 Man, I was really bothered by how they mistranslated Nekoma's motto in this ep. The show subtitles it as "We're like the blood in our veins. We must flow without stopping. Keep the oxygen moving and your mind working." The first half of this is okay, but the second half is just totally wrong. A better translation is: "We are the body's blood–flow smoothly and circulate oxygen so that the Brain functions normally". Why is that so important? Well, last ep, we heard Nekoma's captain call Kenma 'the backbone, the brain and the heart of Nekoma'. This episode establishes the fact that Kenma as a setter is supported by his team's superior receiving power. They are the body's blood providing clean receives so that Nekoma's brain can fully utilize his talents as a setter. That's why the camera goes to Kenma when Kuroo says 'so that the brain functions normally', and it explains why Kenma finds that motto embarrassing and asks Kuroo to stop saying it before matches. Nekoma's members recite this motto to help set the mood for their play style and highlights just how different of a team they are from Karasuno and Crunchyroll's mistranslation just makes it sound like a normal pump up speech >:(
