the next episode is filler, but i still recommend you to watch it, it's really good

Wow another one hour long video

SmilePlease

The big difference to usual Shounen filler is that this one is actually canonical though and was supposed to be in the manga.

Princess Paladin

"It wasn't really backstory but it kind of was." It was literally his backstory. And yes, "All for one, and one for all." is the phrase.

Deagor

Watch episode 19, it may be "filler" but its actually one of my favorite episodes, trust me you may not have as much to say story wise on MHA from it - being filler and all - but you'll have a lot to say about character development and shounen in general which is stuff I know you guys like talking about from your earlier videos. Also if you skip it you'll have an unlimited amount of people asking "where is episode 19" forever and you don't want that :P

Anonymous

The ringtone is actually "A phone call...is here"

VinterSvart

A Phone call.... is HERE xD

good stuff

2 WEEKS. 2 WEEKS UNTIL MORE STORY ELEMENTS. 19 is filler

Le Duc Théo

Guys, Deku's class is not the top-level of UA, Mei is fine in the support course. They are not put in class A because they are stronger than class B, it's basically random. (Of course, the story gives them more screentime and they appear stronger.) Shinsou, however, deserves an upgrade into the hero course. Plus don't forget these guys are first-year, there are two other grades of student with more training and experience than them.

Jonathan Karlsson

Are you guys going to skip the next episode?

Seconded about the class A class B thing. Considering the fact that both classes have two recommended students and seeing how they split up top scorers in the entrance exam, the school probably didn't intend class A to be the "better class". Class A does have more high scorers (Shiozaki is the highest scorer in class B and she came in 4th), but it seemed more like they did a random split and it ended up not being perfectly even.

About the law concerning violent Quirk usage by unlicensed persons, I do think that it hasn't been in place for that long time. In ep 1 of season 1 the doctor at a local clinic said something about Midoriya's mom being "the fourth generation". So I'd think Quirks have been around for only 5ish generations right now, and the laws were somewhat hastily put up to prevent the society devolving into utter chaos. (One for All turnover rates were probably a lot faster than generations. I could see some holders holding it for less than a decade.) I think what happened was that the legislators panicked and went with "stiff but safe" approach of Quirk regulation. Unlicensed people are forbidden from using their Quirks in public period, except that unless it's harming someone or something people don't really make a big deal out of it. Once someone gets hurt though, I think they apply gun control level gravity to the situation, given how Quirks could kill easily and all. I also think the police acted the way they did because our three students were hero trainees. If they really brought their case to court they probably could have gotten away without much punishment. (Iida would have more legal problem than others) Extenuating circumstances, them being minors, Stain was literally about to kill someone, etc. But even if they got away free this kind of record would be a black mark in their records if they want to become professional heroes in this world. They were completely unlicensed, and not supervised by a licensed pro hero, but they were wearing hero costumes and going into engage a criminal using their Quirks. What they did was something of a vigilantism and that just goes against the way the hero industry is set up in this society. So the police was really doing them a favor. The Hosu police chief will probably get in a shit ton of trouble if this got out.

Princess Paladin

Also, Jacob, your complaint about the law... I'm sorry, but I completely disagree, this is not new information, it's been explained to us before, and I don't know what you're even complaining about. Heroes are those who are licensed to stop violent Quirk users and crimes. They do not have permission to intentionally seek someone out in order to engage them in combat. They can not make arrests. They can not "punish" criminals. Manual explained all of this to Iida already. The police are the ones who can arrest criminals. The justice system tries them. Heroes are not vigilantes who can do whatever they want in the name of justice without consequence. This is one-hundred percent logical. And "self defense" does not excuse violence. Someone who kills in self-defense or similar still has to go to court. Anyone can claim they did something in self-defense. Heroes are held to a higher standard, and that is why they are going through this entire process of becoming heroes, to make sure they understand the responsibilities and can follow them. That they took it upon themselves to go fight the Hero Killer instead of staying with their mentors or staying out of combat like they were told to, whether they were helping Iida or fighting Stain intentionally, was a violation of those rules. Strictly according to the law, they did NOT have the authority to be involved or to fight anyone, especially not in-costume. Strictly according to the law, they should have stayed uninvolved even if someone died as a result, because they did not have the authority to decide to waive the rules. It's like the chief said, "As long as it turns out okay, it's okay to bend the rules?" When you bend or break the law when it benefits you to do so, it stops mattering. Either it applies all of the time, or it applies none of the time. It's like a speed limit. It isn't optional. That is the fastest you can go, not the starting point from which you can go faster if you feel like it. You not liking that it detracts from the kids being heroic doesn't really influence at all the completely realistic and logical basis of this law. It's necessary to maintain order. If people just go off and attack people whenever they feel like it and then explain it away as being for the greater good... To be honest, the police chief NOT punishing them according to the law bothered me. The existence of the law itself makes total sense. But that it wasn't enforced in order to allow these three to continue their hero training is what seemed unrealistic to me. Though, again, such corruption exists in the real world too. It's just awfully convenient that it was applied here so that the main characters can keep going.

The weekly wait for these is TORTURE

Irenesharda

Quirks have been around much longer than you realize. Think about it. In the first episode, Izuku's mom said she's the 4th generation in her family to have a quirk and Izuku would be the 5th. All Might has been a hero long enough that he was influencing Stain prior to Stain going into high school. Stain is already at least in his 30s at this point. All Might himself has to be at LEAST in his 50s. And he's the 8th holder. Quirks themselves have to have been around for at the very least more than a century, but we're probably talking about at least two.

Irenesharda

Also, if you look back, remember why Gran Torino took over for training All Might. He basically said in no uncertain terms, that he did it because his friend, Shimura, was not able to. And now that we know Shimura was killed, we can guess that it's likely the 7th holder was killed before he or she could train All Might. And we also know this was all happening when All Might was starting high school since we see All Might wearing a UA gym uniform while Gran Torino was training him. Knowing all that, you can put together a little bit of a timeline.

Anonymous

Given how many All Might merchandise there are, it might be a ringtone that's commercially available to the public. Like, they called in All Might and recorded that so that people could purchase and download that ringtone for $0.99. And All Might thought it was pretty funny so he set it as his own ringtone.

Irenesharda

And yet, I can also understand Jacob's view as I felt that myself. Some people agree to the "always obey the rules because they are there fore a reason" adage, and some people believe that there are times and instances where exceptions can happen and maybe necessary. For example, a person breaking the speed limit to get someone in risk of dying to the hospital, based on the circumstances, if the police does intervene, he will either let that person go or escort them themselves. Jaywalking and gum-chewing are crimes in some places, but there is no way the police would ever take the time to prosecute each person. In fact society would probably outcry if they did, saying the police are wasting their time and letting "real criminals" get away. It also depends on the culture. of the area. Some lands, especially like Japan, are really built upon law and order and everyone being a unit. America on the other had, while holding up law and order, does have a history of making heroes out of law-breakers depending on the circumstances. I mean, how many movies have we done, where the hero is one who has to take the law into his own hands because the law was against them and then had to break the law in order to fix the situation? Are they usually punished in the end? No, we usually just have it end where the real criminal is brought to justice and the person who had to bend the law gets his life back and is thought of as heroic. I've always thought that there are exceptions to every rule. So, while I see your side, I can also see Jacob's side, and I happen to agree with his.

Irenesharda

If you listen to the background info that Aizawa and Izuku's previous Jr. High teachers were saying, they were saying that while they are beginning to adjust previous laws and conditions to suit quirks, it's been really slow going and that, as well as this episode itself, all speak to how it takes a society time to adjust to new things, but Japan itself is notorious for a having quite a bit of red tape to get through in terms of changing things and maneuvering the law. Also, I don't think it's completely illegal for non-heroes to use their quirks. We see Bakago blowing stuff up all the time even though he's not an official hero yet and even before he entered UA, The finger guy and wings guy definitely used their quirks. Izuku's mom uses hers to pick up things on occasion both in and out of the house, and we saw a random woman protect herself using a shield. Also, I can't believe they could stop Hatsume Mei from using her quirk if she wanted to. And I also can't see the industry letting lawmakers get in the way of capitalizing on being able to use quirks in a professional capacity like they mentioned using them for working with electricity or the water works or metal works. I think Jiru even mentions this last season, saying Kaminari's quirk can be used in many industries and that electric types like him have a lot of options in a career.

I don't know if you guys caught All Might's comment back to Gran Torino when All for One was brought up, but he exclaimed: "I can't believe he survived that injury." Which I think might be an indicator that the last time they parted ways, All Might was sure he died. Maybe ALL Might did try to kill him?

Ryan Pearce

Hatsume probably won't join the hero class simply because she doesn't want to. The only reason she entered the sports festival was to show off her inventions so she could get a contract for building stuff. This doesn't mean she won't show up anymore, I could see her taking a role like Q from James Bond series, as the provider of useful gadgets and support. And maybe performing a gunship rescue with a pack of her precious babies (being literal gunships) when things get real.

Can you somehow do a 2 episode back to back? since episode 19 is a filler and i'm not saying it must be skip watching, but it is not worth a time to have a long time discussion and theory for that episode :) hope you might consider brothers :)

A Suresh

Darth Plagueis?

Irenesharda

The original saying is: "Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno" or "One for all, and all for one". So yes, originally "One for All" comes first, though it has been seen so many times inverted as well (All for One and One for All), that both are considered correct.

At least one of you should read the manga after you finish this season :p

26:30 What do you mean Deku vs. Shigaraki? Clearly the only one who can beat Shigaraki is THE HAND CRUSHER! Go forth Todroki! CRUSH his HANDS!

Mavengoose Unlimited

I don’t think AllMight recorded his own ringtone. He is so popular that he has action figures of him and also gag ringtone franchises. Funny part is him setting his own franchise ringtone on his phone

Irenesharda

No! It would ruin the speculation we would get when they review the third season. ( not a spoiler, it's been announced) I like that they come up with these wild theories and not having to wonder if they are pretending or playing dumb. Besides, it makes it really special for us anime only watchers. I can't stand those anime reviews who read the manga and then act as if they haven't read it only to reveal many plot points by playing dumb and saying "I wonder if (plot point) will be important in the future?" And you now know it will because of the way they said it. Please stay away from it guys. Its fun when we're all finding out together.

Ryan Pearce

Oh, another random thought occurred to me... How is Stain going to take Endeavor stealing the credit for bringing him in? It might redeem Iida in his eyes a bit, as Iida is not doing this for glory, because he let Endeavor take the credit, but, to Stain, this will be another example of Endeavor taking the credit for something he literally did nothing about.

Anonymous

A few things I wanted to point out! Iida's injury: Brachial plexus is located somewhere around where the neck and shoulder meets, so that long-term damage is from Stain's stab through the shoulder. Actually some people already guessed during ep 17's events that something's gonna be wrong with Iida's left arm. When he shielded Todoroki from Stain's throwing knife, he reached out with his right arm even though Todoroki was standing to his left. And then he took out the knife from the right arm with his mouth, not his left hand. Iida must have had trouble moving his left arm at that point. Gran Torino (and other supervisors) getting punished despite the cover-up: Manual mentioned that they still need to take responsibility for not fulfilling their supervisor duties. Considering the kids' injuries and how Midoriya mass texted his location when he encountered Stain (Kirishima even reported it), they couldn't pretend that the kids didn't meet Stain at all. So the cover story is probably something like the kids did wander away and encountered Stain, got hurt, and Endeavor came in to save the day. The supervisors are punished for being neglectful and letting their trainees go into a dangerous situation on their own. There's a big emphasis on the fact that these three are kids involved in dangerous activities who must be strictly supervised and protected. All for One's name: Sometimes people just use their Quirk names as their hero/villain name. For example, Jirou Kyouka uses her Quirk name "Earphone Jack" as her hero name. So it's possible that All for One is both the name of the Quirk and the villain.

Kyle

I don't think it will ever be shown how he feels, or his view on the matter. He's locked up now, anything that he has to say will probably never get out to the viewers or the public.
