Jacob in the pre-discussion vs. post-discussion is so funny hahahaha. From having a glimmer of hope because Nana is with Nobu during the phone call to being devastated and looking so uncomfortable at the end. Nana's insecurities coming out full force with the way Nobu's comment hit her hard. I'm glad you guys also discussed Hachi's shame and her interaction with Nobu this episode. Of course she's not completely blameless and I understand why people get frustrated with her this episode, but I've seen so many people struggle to understand why she isn't able to clearly communicate to Nobu. Her emotional distress from the pregnancy + Takumi's behavior + her low self-worth and shame + Nana not showing up all piled up on her.

caleb so spot on abt the shame she feels bc she thinks the entire situation is her fault. ppl always give hachi shit for this episode and for not explaining herself when realizing she's not in a state to. takumi basically crushes her self esteem she's basically a piece of dirt on the floor in her head and can't bring herself to defend herself, all she can say is she's sorry. and deep down she knows she wants to keep the baby, cutting it off with nobu in a way he won't pine for her is in her opinion, the best thing she can do. do i think the situation was handeled well, ofc not but the reality is, her emotional state was in the gutter. also i love the line reira says shortly after the scene with nobu and hachi, that relationships are bound by trust and it gives insight to why hachi and nobu wouldn't work out bc he doesn't trust her and by her lack of response why would he. not that takumi is to be trusted but in comparison hachi feels seen and reaffirmed within her self depreciating thoughts and doesn't have to put on this facade that has her spiraling into depression. she needs comfort, and takumi actually gives her some at this stage not to be interrogated so who she responds to makes sense. also it's clear she's a victim of severe emotional manipulation and gaslighting so ofc her response will not be perfect, if it were that easy, no one would be in emotionally abusive relationships.
