Notes on NIVANFIELD (Patreon)

Since some fans may be disappointed that the characters in my series are actors playing Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans, I wanted to take a moment to explain why I took this approach.

When Golyhawhaw released his Chris Redfield sim I knew I wanted to make a Nivanfield series, however I had no idea what that story would be. I created a Piers Nivans sim and set out to research the boys’ relationship in Resident Evil 6. From the beginning I wanted to tell a story that was both true to the source material yet something completely original.

Knowing the limitations of the game and the available custom content, I knew it would be practically impossible to make a decent action-packed, mission-oriented Resident Evil machinima using The Sims 4. On the other hand, the idea of making a domestic Nivanfield storyline sounded a little boring to me. I needed a fresh approach, an idea I could get excited about.

I realized that I haven’t used the “Get Famous” game pack yet, and I had no plans for a Hollywood themed series. Using the “Get Famous” pack to make Nivanfield not only offered an interesting twist to the story but a chance to explore a relevant theme.

I asked myself, what makes Nivanfield special? Why has it generated such a devoted following? Many gay men, myself included, want to see a representation of a heroic gay romance. I stumbled upon this idea while making “The Warrior’s Oasis,” understanding the interest that series generated. Hollywood and the video game industry are still not giving us openly gay romantic action heroes. We’re not going to see Batman and Robin as a gay crime fighting couple. Reading between the lines in RE6, Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans represent a passionate and devoted relationship between two sexy, masculine heroes.  It’s easy to see them as a gay couple. So I decided that my story would explore the theme of Hollywood still refusing to let sexy, masculine action heros out of the closet.

So while my characters are actors playing their roles, their relationship will be 100% Captain Chris and Puppy Piers. I hope you enjoy my vision of Nivanfield. I’m excited to tell this story, and I think it’s going to be memorable.
