Looking at just the image I'm left imagining it takes the shape of a 3d cylinder, which is what I'd expect from a say maybe a contained projection of aura (if that's even a thing in this story I don't particularly remember). In context it's probably understandable, but I have a hard time seeing that image and thinking lightening. If someone told me it was an attack I'd be more likely to think space laser.
