End of the Year Overview (Lots o Text) (Patreon)
Content
I wanna do this post now instead of making it the last one of the year so you guys can get an update as that. We got a lot of topics I wanna cover, so lets get started!
1. There's a lot more of you guys now than at the beginning of the year! The increase in money let me dedicate a lot more time to game development which meant a lot more updates, so you long time supporters probably saw a big jump in the amount of content being sent your way. If the amount of patrons climbs next year like it did this year, you're gonna see another jump in the amount of content!
Since I have a lot more of you here now, I wanna ask: Is there anything you'd like to see different? Either comment here or send me a message if there's something you wanna experience from this patreon that's not currently being provided.
2. Here's a loose schedule for next year based on how I see things currently:
1st quarter: Finish and release Zap and Andy Demo (exclusively for patrons).
2nd quarter: Resume work on SSS and begin designing area 3 of Zap and Andy, The Circus.
3rd quarter: Finish content up to the end of the first act of SSS and release a demo of it (also exclusively for patrons).
4th quarter: Begin work on act 2 of 3 in SSS and area 4 of Zap and Andy.
Of course if the number of patrons/amount of money increases, this schedule will become inaccurate since I'll have more time for game development.
3. The Zap and Andy demo was originally only gonna be the first area, the mechanic's garage, but that area functions as a tutorial, and in my experience demos that are just the section where you learn how to play the game don't tend to be the most fun, so we agreed to also include the motel section.
And the motel section turned out to be huge as hell! It has over 3 times the number of rooms, graphics, puzzles, and characters! It also had a lot of different things that I'd never done before, and my programming skills at the beginning of the motel and the end of it are leagues different from the experience, as seen by the new dark room lighting taking only a day.
Because of this, and because the next few areas have you controlling just one of the duo, I expect development speed to pick up once we get out of the motel area. It's a lot less time consuming when you're not juggling 3 different characters (Including the Cherub who has his own mechanics) with very different actions and abilities that could potentially be all onscreen at once. Since the circus just has Andy, he's all I gotta worry about.
4. SSS also has me doing a lot of things I've never done before, but in a much more controlled way thanks to being built in javascript, a language im more familiar with. It also has a rigid mission structure for the player to experience, so testing sections is as easy as starting up a mission. I expect this game to have a much shorter development time than Zap and Andy.
5. Caesarcub's situation doesn't seem to have improved yet, but I'm not canceling My Roommate's Dad unless he explicitly can't work on it anymore whatsoever. If his life situation gets better you'll see more updates of that as well.
Alright, that's it for now. I'll be back on Tuesday with a standard update with all the dongs and dads you've come to expect.
Enjoy your weekend everybody!
