I finished this last night. I probably need to record this soon, but I would love any and all feedback as I'm worried it might be controversial.

I’m a Carole Baskin defender and I have a few points here that you may want to consider adding to boost your argument: 1. The volunteers at Big Cat Rescue that you see in the doc are made to look like they’re willingly doing this weird pyramid scheme of 12 hour unpaid labor every day all year in comparison to Joe Exotic’s motley crew of underpaid misfits, which looks “better” since they’re getting paid. That 12 hour day happens only once a year, which is why Carole doesn’t recognize people until they’ve been there for five years: it’s easier to remember people you’ve seen once a year for five years rather than a person you met once a year ago since literally dozens of people show up for this volunteer day. 2. Regardless of whether or not you think Carole Baskin had something to do with her husband’s disappearance, it’s undeniable that she was the victim of abuse from both her first and second husbands, including the one who disappeared. That guy also picked her up on the side of the road when she was 19 and he was in his 40s, which is ew even before you get to the abuse. 3. Glossed over in the episode is that her husband crashed his plane ALL. THE. TIME. When that happened, he sometimes failed to get in contact with Carole and his associates for a few days. Which is why he had a clause in his will for in case of disappearance, because even he was like “yeah guess I could crash en route to Costa Rica.”

4. Carole Baskin has been recognized by the humane society of the US for her work promoting the rescue and ethical treatment of big cats. Yes she started on the wrong side, but you don’t get accolades from the humane society unless you’ve done that 180 and you’re putting in the work.

I personally prefer Joe over Carole, but I understand that his Tiger King gang was filled with super shitty people. I don't think this will be as controversial as you think, the documentary kind of conveys how gross everyone is. I love this script

I think that the some of the other stuff thats been said about the actual conditions at Joe's park in some of these follow up interviews, particularly the ones with Rick Kirkham, that have since come out show that the doc actually pulled its punched AT LOT when it comes to painting the picture of what the day to day life was life there. The doc really up plays the more buffoonish aspects that can be safely laughed rather than horrify people with the stark reality of the animal cruelty and doesn't really dig into nitty gritty of how the big cat trade works. Its very strange that even Kirkham keeps saying Carole's and Joe's parks weren't that different when its pretty clear that there's a huge difference regardless of your thoughts on Carole as a person. Feels like a defensive mechanism to minimize his involvement in the whole affair. I don't think I've seen anyone really critic the documentary or its creators for the actual quality of the work and how well it actually succeeds at being a informative documentary rather than just being fun reality TV so in that way its refreshing.

I only caught the bit about how her husband immediately lost the pilots license he barely got on the 2nd viewing. It really is insane to gloss over the detail that he'd been flying illegally for years and wasn't good at it.

Overall I think your setup is good, but I think part where you get into the more serious issues needs some more...meat...to it. It feels too rushed and a bit jumbled. I think a bit more should be said about your thoughts on the exploitation of Joe's staff because it seems like you have more to say. Maybe leave how its actually just recreating the ego feud between these 2 figures rather than exploring the other aspects you mention for the end of that section.

You might like the book The Journalist and the Murderer by Janet Malcolm. It's more about the relationship between journalist and subject than about the audience.
