I don`t believe it was ever love, only attachment and possessiveness.

If one feels the need to hurt the other because they couldnt stay, you`ve fallen into self-love and/or being in love with being in love.

"If I can`t be happy with you, I will make you suffer."

Love`s opposite is indifference.

Hate`s opposite is attachment/possessiveness.

It`s difficult to hate you, but easy to hate your actions.
