There isnt really any kind of trick involved, I try to feel it. Doing studies helps with figuring the distance. Its like how we are speaking English without thinking about grammar, we just feel it. Studies, whether from life or from other artist can help with our visual memory. Outside of that, sometimes I do get it wrong, and if its digital, I can select and move, on paper I just have to erase. Hope this helps!
