The City Lord’s Office

A dark silence fills the City Lord’s office as the important people of the city, with the exception of Leon stand without a word. And the one amongst them that looks the least pleased about the current turn of events is the Emperor of the Raizel Empire, who has just lost a Dragon Core.

Eventually the silence is broken by the Guildmaster of the Mercenaries Guild in the city.

“You must really care about your son,” Damien says, looking at the Emperor within the room.

Jake Raizel glances at the Guildmaster before nodding without a word and looking back down again, his fist clenching at his side.

Unlike orbs, Dragon Cores are almost nonexistent. Since dragons are one of the rarest creatures in all of the world.

Many cultivators take them as cheats to push their cultivation ahead, and they often save them up until they’re at later stages in their cultivation strictly to give them a better boost. With cultivation being harder the higher their Tier.

So for the Emperor to give one away… Damien isn’t sure he could’ve done that himself. Even with how much he likes the city and the City Lord.

Even with how much the city benefits him.

It’s just too much to lose.

A free ride straight to the next Tier.

Possibly even more than a single Tier depending on what Tier and level they’re at. Since Dragon Cores stack up the energy, even if they reach the level cap for cultivation. So they can continue using the energy even after they ascend to the next Tier.

Damien turns his gaze away from the Emperor and focuses on the Princess, who also looks very nearly as upset as the Emperor. Then he looks at the others in the room. And each and every person looks both relieved at surviving and winning, and tenacious about what it required them to do.

Making a deal with a Dungeon Core to bail them out in a war is simply disgraceful for them. And it doesn’t give a good impression to the nearby nations either.

Damien turns around to look in the direction of the dungeon, feeling that the dungeon was the only one to come out of this war on top. Because both Wolfmoore and the Kingdom of the Fallen suffered casualties for no gain in the conflict.

Meanwhile the Dungeon Core made out with a large boost in its cultivation and level from the mercenaries and soldiers training in its depths, along with the Dragon Core on top of that. With no losses for the Dungeon Core at all.

The Guildmaster isn’t sure how he feels about that. Because it almost feels like the dungeon is using them in this war, but at the same time, he knows they’re using the dungeon. Since they wouldn’t have lasted as long as they did without the dungeon, and the dungeon was the one who saved them in the end.

Even if the dungeon was also the reason for the Kingdom of the Fallen’s attack.

But the dungeon is also the reason they were able to set up this nation in the first place.

At the end of the day though, Damien knows very well that Dungeon Cores aren’t involved in mortal affairs. Even if they may make deals from time to time, to them, all that matters is growing stronger and strengthening their dungeon.

Damien slowly walks over to the window before opening the curtain and looking down at the direction of the dungeon, which is now sealed off. Most likely for the Dungeon Core to absorb the Dragon Core without worrying about his dungeon.

This may just be the youngest Dungeon Core to reach this height in cultivation… and the connections he’s made already…

If what the young City Lord told him is right, the Dungeon Core should have strong connections to the God of Blood and the God of Water. And while he wasn’t entirely sure about those before now, simply because having a visit from them and working with high Tier Vampires doesn’t mean a strong connection to the God himself, he can’t deny it anymore. Not when the God ordered the Vampires’ Demigods to assist them.

The Guildmaster continues looking out the window for several more seconds before sighing. But right when he’s about to close the curtain, a wave of disturbing mana rushes from the door of the dungeon along with the embassy the Dungeon Core set up. Clearly representing the Dungeon Core absorbing the Dragon Core.

The wave of power doesn’t last very long though before cutting off again, the Dungeon Core no doubt reaching the max Cultivation Level of his current Tier. And Damien can only assume that the Dungeon Core isn’t at the max Experience Level, since his dungeon quickly reopens once again.

Damien can’t help but wonder just how close Fenrir is to reaching Tier 3 though.

After letting out a sigh, Damien turns around to walk back to the others as he says, “We need to figure out what we’re going to do next.” He then looks around the room with a frown and asks, “But where is Leon?”

All of the people in the room close their eyes, sensing for him. But then they open them again with a frown, clearly not having found him just like when Damien tried.

Except for the Emperor, who eventually raises his head and says, “He’s negotiating peace with the Kingdom of the Fallen, alongside the Empire.”

That has Damien narrowing his eyes slightly. But he doesn’t say anything about it.

After all, he’s supposed to be a third party to all of this even if he’s offered a lot of aid to Wolfmoore during this war. Simply because the Mercenaries Guild isn’t meant to get too deeply attached to any particular nation. Even if each Guild branch is considered an independent identity in a way.

Damien can’t help but sigh again as he thinks about everything that is to come in the near future.

At least the war is over and we’re all still alive and free.
