The Coast of Wolfmoore

Alistair Nightshade feels disappointment as he stands at the head of his flagship, watching his forces finally breaking past the Wolfmoore forces and pulling over into the dock. Because he was genuinely enjoying this war, even if it was only a little bit.

But now it’s over.

And the one big fight during the war didn’t give his uncle much of a workout either. The fight with the Elven Emperor who his uncle had beaten to a bloody pulp, even if said Emperor escaped in the end.

He’ll have to go pay that Emperor’s Empire a visit sooner or later to discuss his participation in this war.

Or more importantly, to discuss payment for their loss.

Alistair knows that his father has no interest in the Raizel Empire itself, so they don’t plan on invading them. But interfering with their war requires a price to be paid.

Right now though, their priority is securing the dungeon.

So Alistair stands silently on his ship’s head, simply watching as his Fallen forces charge, clashing with the natives and pushing them back with ease. And this process continues for a while until right when his forces are about to break past the dock and into the coastal city itself.

At which point Alistair is faced with an unexpected surprise.

An unpleasant one at that.

Three Demigod Tier Vampires appear high in the air, sending waves of blood down to push all of Alistair’s forces straight back to the coast again and into the water itself. Then they float down towards the docks with indifferent expressions on their faces.

Alistair stares in shock at three of the Demigods of the Empire of Eternal Night. And no matter how hard he thinks, he can’t figure out why they’re attacking them.

Did one of our own destroy their embassy? But that wouldn’t beget a response from three of their Demigods… are they protecting this nation? But why?

The Fallen Prince’s uncle quickly flies up to meet with the Demigods before his voice echoes out through the entire battlefield.

“Demigods of the Empire of Eternal Night, why are you aiding this lower nation?”

Alistair watches as the three Demigods narrow their eyes and the center one – who Alistair recognizes as the father of the current Emperor of the Empire – declares, “Our reasons are our own and are of no concern to you. Begone before we wipe out your forces entirely.”

The Fallen Prince’s eyes widen in shock at that. Both by the way they’re doing this, and the fact that they’re doing it at all.

Because the Empire of Eternal Night is known strongly for their penchant for eliminating all enemies no matter what. So that they don’t end up faced with them again in the future.

Meaning that they would normally – if they believed Alistair to be an enemy – wipe out their entire force without batting an eye.

But instead they’re letting them retreat.

Alistair’s eyes narrow slightly, but when his uncle turn to look at him, he simply nods his head, deciding a retreat would be best right now.

Since there is no way they’d be able to stand up against the Empire.

“Very well,” his uncle declares before Alistair raises his fist and shouts out, his voice ringing through the entire battlefield, “Full retreat.”

But Alistair continues to glare in the direction of the leader of their enemies. A man who he believes was the son of the Raizel Empire’s Emperor. And a Hybrid of a Human and an Elf.

Alistair still can’t figure out why the Empire would aid them, but he can at least figure out one thing.

The Empire must have listened to the dungeon’s request. And if Alistair had to guess, the dungeon would most likely only make a request if it was bribed.

Because Dungeon Cores are known to be apathetic towards mortals. They have no interest in mortal affairs or who manages the entrance of their dungeon.

So all Alistair has to do is convince the void element Dungeon Core to retract its aid and the war will resume uninterrupted.

Alistair watches his forces all jump back up into the ships under the indifferent gazes of the Demigods before he finally turns around and steps below the ship’s deck himself. And he doesn’t stop until he reaches his cabin and sits down at his desk.

The question is what did Wolfmoore offer the dungeon for it to decide to convince the Vampires to aid them? What would be worth it.

He’s already heard about the dungeon’s connection with the Vampires through his Father, but he didn’t expect it to be a strong enough connection for them to aid it without anything in return. So whatever the nation is offering must be good enough for both of them for the Empire to actually assist them.

Although, their roundabout method that goes against expectations leads Alistair to wonder whether it’s as simple as that.

It’s almost like they’re trying to avoid fighting around the nation itself. They didn’t even kill Alistair’s forces, merely sent them away.

And that’s not like them in the slightest.

Alistair taps his finger on his desk for a few minutes before eventually sighing and deciding to tell his father about what has happened.

Which he is not looking forward to, because even if this isn’t his own fault, it’s still his mission. And the mission failed.

It’ll hurt his standing for the throne between his siblings, hurt his reputation, and most importantly, hurt his pride.

The Fallen Prince turns to look out the window of his cabin with a scowl on his face. But no matter how hard he scowls, the Demigods aren’t going to leave.

At most, he takes some small satisfaction in the damage he has done to the nation, along with the sight of the Hybrid’s disgruntled look. No doubt due to whatever it was that he had to pay to get the dungeon and therefore Vampire’s aid.

He turns around again and begins to plan for how he will tell the current Emperor.
