                                                                       Fenrir

I continue watching the party move through the new floor for a little while before moving my attention to the entrance of my dungeon when an Undine appears – one of the servants of the God of Water that had started showing up just like the Vampires. The Undine immediately bows towards me when I appear in front of it in my avatar. She has light blue skin with some gills on her neck, a mouth filled with sharp teeth, and completely blue eyes with no white in them.

“Greetings, Dungeon Core Fenrir,” she says, the tentacles making up her hair moving down over her shoulder as she bows before she rises back to her full height – which is still quite a bit shorter than my avatar. “I heard you just set up your next floor?” And when I nod my avatar’s head, she continues with a bright smile on her face, “Then may I offer you a deal on behalf of his excellency, Leviathan?”

“A deal?” I ask while narrowing my eyes a bit. “You do realize I already have a deal with Nosferatu, right?”

She nods her head and says, “That is perfectly alright. The two gods have an amiable relationship at worst and friendly at best.”

Oh. That’s good then.

“Then proceed,” I declare, and she does just that.

“Leviathan – just like Nosferatu – has a vast stash of void energy orbs and would like to trade them with you if that would be possible,” the Undine states, making me tilt my head a little bit.

Just how many people have these void orbs anyways? Is it just something every God has at this point? Or only the allies of Fenrir before he passed?

“I would like to ask why Leviathan and Nosferatu are both offering me so much,” I bluntly ask, deciding to just be straightforward. Since from my interactions with them, they won’t be angry with that.

My question seems to surprise the Undine for a moment before she answers, “Because the void element is the only element that can destroy the System.”

Destroy the… System?

I stare at her for several seconds in silence.

“Why would they want to destroy the System?” I ask rather carefully.

The Undine’s eyes glaze over for a few seconds before returning to normal as she answers, “I’m sorry, but Leviathan has refused to answer that question for now. But do know that the System was what the original Fenrir, God of the Void, was fighting against.”

My eyes widen in shock.

Fenrir… was fighting the System? But… why?

What exactly is the System doing that make the Gods want to destroy it? And how does one destroy the System anyways?

The System is unintelligent in and of itself judging by what I’ve seen since coming to Midgard, so how could it be a threat?

“You will understand in the future,” the Undine continues. “For now, just know that the only one who can go against the System is a Tier 10 being not born on Midgard.”

And all void creatures are born in the Void, and not on Midgard…

“What about the creatures born on other elemental planes?” I ask out of curiosity. Because I know there are other planes as well.

The Undine shakes her head and answers, “All other planes are considered a part of Midgard. The void is the only plane that is not an actual part of Midgard. It is instead the area outside of Midgard. The in between. A place between us and the other worlds of the universe.”

Other... worlds? There’s more than just Midgard?

“Wait, if that’s the case, couldn’t you just get someone from another world to destroy the System?” I ask while taking a brief glance at the party in the fifteenth floor, finding them starting to get close to the boss room.

“No,” the Undine answers with a shake of her head. “There is no way to cross the Void unless you are a Void creature. Not even for Gods.”

That… okay, I guess I can understand that. Just from my experience in the Void, I know the Void itself is extremely difficult to navigate for non-Void creatures. It’s to the degree that the Vampires had to have some sort of energy or item to follow to find their way back to me. Which I had thought was odd at first, since I can navigate the Void without much issue.

Guess that is the same for Tier 10 individuals as well then.

“I make no promises,” I state. “But if the System is what killed Fenrir, then I will be taking vengeance for him.”

If it isn’t what killed him, then I won’t be attacking the System any time in my life. But if it was…

I shake my head at the thought.

Tier 10 is way too far away for me. So there’s no point in thinking about this right now.

“What’s the deal Leviathan is offering?” I ask, moving back onto the original topic she came here to discuss. Because if these Gods are willing to pump me full of void energy orbs, pushing me much further ahead in my cultivation than I would’ve reached otherwise, then I am not going to complain.

The Undine bows again as she says, “We would like to offer you the same deal that you already have with Nosferatu.”

I narrow my eyes slightly.

That would burn another day’s worth of mana on a regular basis… but I guess it’s worth it. And they won’t have an unlimited amount of void orbs, so they’ll run out eventually.

“Alright, we have a deal,” I answer with a nod of my avatar’s head.

“Very well,” she responds, her smile growing wider as she reaches into the pocket of her glowing blue armor before bringing out a void energy orb and reaching it out to me. “Take this as a gift for the creation of this deal.”

Oh? Very nice. A free orb.

I take the orb and teleport it to my core. She then states her goodbyes, briefly mentioning how they’ll be back in a couple of weeks with another orb and to pick up my end of the bargain.

After she leaves, I return my avatar to my core room before returning my main consciousness to my core and focusing my attention back on the intruders right as they reach the boss room.

Good timing.
