My semester is now officially over :)

Just gotta wait for my final grades to be inputted into the system.

So there won't be as many delayed chapters or canceled ones anymore. Or any, as long as nothing unexpected comes up.

Also, here's some character art for Cassandra. It's an image from a bit later on in the story though.

                                                                                                 Cassandra
                                                                               Year 820 | Month 3 | Day 13

It takes hours before we finish with the paperwork, and by then, it’s already dark outside. Although despite that, the Hunter’s Hall is still pretty full of people.

“Welcome again ta Aulta, Hunter Scarlet!” the man behind the counter says while reaching his hand out to me. “The name’s Alrekr Svíurrson, and I’m the Hall Master of this hall. You ever need anything, just ask me!”

I frown for a second at his hand, pondering for a second if I should accept it or if it might hint him off to my claws before eventually reaching out and taking his hand. He shakes it like normal, albeit with a pretty strong grip. But if he notices anything strange, he doesn’t say or show anything.

So I give a mental shrug before walking over towards the jobs board, which has a lot less people now than before.

Guess even if people do still come here a lot at night, they don’t come for work. Especially considering the fact that most of the people still in the hall are drinking their night away.

The few people at the board proceed to ignore me as I get to it and begin perusing the different jobs.

A job to kill a wendigo. Don’t know what that is.

A job to kill a wyvern. I might be able to do that, depending on its age.

A job to kill a yeti. Those are too annoying to find, since they’re such good hiders.

I continue reading job after job until I finally just settle on the job to kill a draugr located in a ruins just a few dozen kilometers from here. The reason I pick this job over a lot of the others is specifically because its Tier is listed as Tier 3, while at least half of the other jobs don’t even list the monster’s Tier of strength. Probably because they were posted before the System came about.

After grabbing it, I immediately begin to leave the hall. Because apparently, to accept a job all we have to do is grab the paper and leave. We don’t need to officially accept it or hand it to the receptionist. If someone takes a job and doesn’t complete it by the next morning, then the job paper will be replaced at that time. So there isn’t any sort of completion rate for jobs for hunters. Just a list of jobs completed.

Which is a system I like a lot.

I glance around the hall as I’m walking towards the entrance, noting a few people who wave at me on the way, before I leave out the door to find that the snow has gotten a little heavier outside.

Hmm. Not really used to snow, since it doesn’t really snow all that much on Liathtria. Even during the winter.

But it sure does look pretty.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It doesn’t take me long to get to the ruins, thanks to my now far beyond human level of speed. And the first thing I find is a swarm of undead.

Which makes sense, considering how a draugr is an advanced sort of undead found only on Aulta.

Also, now that I’m thinking about undead, just where did that invader from before get so many in the first place? Unless he robbed several battlefields worth of dead bodies, or spent ages amassing that army, which I doubt is the case.

I narrow my eyes at the lumbering undead around the ruins before looking directly towards the strong aura I sense. One that practically announces the Tier 3 undead’s existence.

So I jump straight over the rest of the undead to land on top of the ruined buildings, making quite a few of the zombies and skeletons slowly begin lumbering over towards me. But I ignore them to focus on the Tier 3 that is now in sight.

And the instant my eyes lock onto it, the creature returns my gaze.

The draugr is wearing the same type of armor that the guards of that village were wearing, and even has an appearance a little bit similar to a human. Except with pale white skin, pitch black orbs for eyes, and sharp claws adorning its hands. And its eyes actually seem to be leaking tiny amounts of miasma as well.

I quickly create large amounts of Wrath lightning around my arms before tossing a bolt straight at the draugr and tossing another one at the other undead chasing after us. The second bolt strikes at the monsters and immediately begins chaining from undead to undead, turning large amounts of them into red ash. But the one I sent after the draugr is directly blocked by a bolt of miasma that it sends back at me.

Hmm…

So it’s a lower level than me by a single level. That’s not a problem.

First though, I should deal with all of the other undead here before they interrupt us.

I send three different bolts of Wrath lightning at them, letting the bolts chain from undead to undead until the area around me and the draugr – who doesn’t look happy about my actions – is cleared for the most part of other undead. But right after I summon another bolt to attack the draugr with, the monster lets out a loud roar that sends the other undead running away from our position.

Huh? It just sent the others away?

I’d have thought it would try to use them to help it fight.

The draugr stares at me with its pitch black eyes without moving for several seconds, making me feel a tad awkward, before it lets out another roar and jumps straight for me with its arm pulled back in a well-formed fist.

What the what? It can fight with martial arts?

I narrow my eyes at that before infusing Wrath into my body and readying myself to meet it by putting my own fists up and wrapping small amounts of Wrath lightning around them.

Well, let’s see how this turns out.
