It can be hard to listen with so much going on. My brain has a hard time processing more than one thing at a time.

Yes!!! And, it seems hard for people to understand why working from home is essential (not a preference), especially when it’s focus time.

I love this sketch. I spent years explaining to my spouse that I'm not listening to others' conversations, I just avoid hearing them. You nailed that perfectly, Dani!

I’m actually the opposite. I need a general din in the background (or music) where I’m unable to focus on any one thing. If it’s too quiet I hear everything individually and get distracted by it. It also puts me to sleep. Libraries are terrible for me, but coffee shops are great. Stupid COVID means that while working from home I can’t go to either place.

I move in and out of this zone, but mostly what I can’t kind of adjust to is other people’s conversations. I cannot tune them out or even turn them down. It leads to a lot of trouble.

I totally feel this. It happens all of the time and I so want to be a good listener. I think that the person I'm interacting with deserves my full attention but it just doesn't end up happening :(

This happens to me all of the time. I used to have an old fashioned travel clock for an alarm clock and I used to lay awake listening to the second hand. One good point for going digital! I like to use white noise to help with this when I am working

I have never really known how to explain this but this is so real
