Copy of Black Hole Horizons

At the event horizon of the black hole, space and time are fundamentally changed. Even professional physicists disagree on what we expect to happen there. But there's a powerful tool in physics that can give us real intuition on the true nature of the event horizon. It's time you learned it.

FYI, the document title has a typo. It should say "Event Horizon", not "Even Horizon" :)

This might sound like the geekiest thing in the world, but some friends and I get together and watch PBS Space Time and talk about the videos afterwards. Now, with the transcripts, we can clarify misheard or misunderstood parts without having to scroll through the videos trying to find the parts. We're going to have even more fun!

That is so awesome to hear Ted. If by "geeky" you mean "awesome" I totally agree. -Rusty

We were referring to the astrophysical phenomena of the perfectly symmetrical black hole -Rusty

I'm faaaarrr from being a physicist but there was something you said in this episode that I couldn't wrap my head around. You slipped in the idea that "time and space switch"... switch properties? So time becomes spatial? I'm not quite sure I understand what that means or how that works. Also, you mention that space time is moving inwards toward the singularity in a black hole, does space time normally move radially outwards (which, although the universe is expanding, it can't expand in a particular direction, can it?)? and if so, from what point? If I'm asking stupid questions just let me know, again I'm not a physicist at all haha

I am pretty darn content with the pajama bottoms and tub of ice cream that I so often pair with my solo PBS Spacetime viewings, but I have to say that your group viewing experience soundss pretty freaking awesome!

I'm pretty sure in this forum, "geeky" is effectively an synonym for "awesome" ;)
