this episode was hyped up because its an important character moment for both sayo and utena, not cuz there was supposed to be any big ecchi content here. its for actual *plot* not "plot". this kind of thing is why manga readers keep saying "no, there really is a good story to it, its not JUST an ecchi show"

Didrik Svahn

Vatz did seems pretty sus this episode so now I don’t think that it is that good at all anymore. Also yeah Sayo just needed to rub one out or get laid

Talmire

I've been reading the manga since before the anime was announced, and it's always weird to see people hype up the story. It's got more going on than most ecchi shows, but the bar for that is on the floor so it's not saying much. I think the characters and their interactions are good, but the story? Meh.

BrandonReviews

it's really weird to me. I admit shows like these or chained solider aren't deep, they aren't completely surface level but it's borderline hentai. a character arc of the mc wanting to keep magical girls pure hence she is disgusted with one being a degenerate isn't deep but some people seem shocked like we watched some crazy development? it's not bad, it makes it better than most fanservice anime but I'm not going to praise a brazer script when we all know why you typically watch it lol. the best part of the writing is how they use puberty and growing up in such a chaotic way with the fanservice. i think it's a lot of [people shamed to admit they like fanservice anime and need it to be deeper than it is you know. glad to have read your comment I was going insane with how many are hyping it up haha. it's just dumb fun imo

Vatz is the white one for the magical girl side right? If so then I do not know what your talking about when you say suspicious. Could you explain?

Aris Katsaris

People shouldn't hype episodes up, it always causes more harm than good when something is hyped.

Didrik Svahn

Yes Vatz is the white one. And what I find suspicious is if he actually cares about the magical girls. As he seems more willing to keep up the brand image of the magical girls. Rather then letting them be themselves

Himi-meow Toga

I see what you mean, when I think about it like it does seem odd that they care more for the image of magical girls than the girls themselves. Considering what the 'supposedly' evil mascot was saying about Utena removing shackles to her heart, I would not be surprised if the two were actually working together. I say supposedly cause if they did pull the twist of what Venalita saying all the way back in episode two actually being close to the truth I would not be surprised.

Didrik Svahn

Oh that could be a possibility. I was more thinking that what Vatz was doing to the magical girls. Was an allegory for how an agent would treat idols

Himi-meow Toga

I mean yeah there could still be that symbolism there at the same time. Just saying that it would not be too surprising of a twist to have to mislead us with the internal monologue saying it was bullshit only for it to actually be true to some degree would be on point for this series. By the way, I'm a manga reader and are almost completely caught up so I'm trying to avoid spoilers by only listing what was in the episodes as my reason for this suspicion. So that is why if you haven't read the manga you might have not had the idea pop up for you yet.

I just joined Patreon to watch anime reviews. Why do you have to censor the videos?

BrandonReviews

Because patreon has a terms of service and I don't want to be marked as 18 plus and lose all my tools like being able to upload to patreon.

Hey Brandon, guess I should ask my questions before they become too redundant... question 1 -- just to be clear, at the end of this episode when it shows all of the broken Magical Girl gems and they talk about hunting them, do they kill them? or do they take their magic and become stronger when they defeat them?

John

question two -- after Azure rides the panda ( I assume she orgasms) and it shows her gem break, after watching episodes 8 / 9 she still has her magic, right? this is why I'm confused... it shows the "real" villains having the gems of the girls they defeated ( I assume) so should Utena have taken Azure's gem? and if the magical girls still have their magic, what's the point of collecting the gems? are they powerless dead or still magic girl heroes??

John

question three -- my main question -- in this episode (7) it shows Baiser's face (( God I LOVE the way they animated her face, those eyes, that expression? god, THAT was evil!!! ha haa.. )) but, if you look at her face, she has stars all over her face?) so HOW powerful IS Basier?? and this is BEFORE episode 8... did she get even more powerful at the end of ep. 8? but in episode 9, she didn't seem that powerful? yes, she seems to really be "getting into" her role now and accepting who she is, yes??

John

okay, last question, maybe part of one above, but if Baiser defeated Azure and broke her gem like ( I assume ) the villains did to all of those broken gems it shows in episode 8, did she get more power for defeating a magical girl? also, and I know this goes to a question above about them killing the magical girls, in episode 8 when it shows the villains standing over all of those magical girls, are they dead?

John

sorry if I'm "slamming" you with a bunch of ( hopefully not dumb) questions, but as hot and as much fun as this anime is, it's getting confusing... I'm really starting to think... it started out with A then B, then C... after episode 7, now it feels like D, then k.. then... Q, then F...

John

sorry, one more question.. I am REALLY looking forward to seeing what happens and what Azure does the next time she ( or all of the Magical Girls) faces Basier! Will she throw herself at Basier's feet? will she attack her "all out" out of shame and embarrassment? I know you don't know, I'm just curious and really looking forward to their next meeting!!! and after she broke and was bowed at Basier's feet, was she offering herself as servant / slave to Utena? what do you think? I have enjoyed your reviews!!
