I find it almost funny how Ichigo avoided hitting any of the girls with the sword, but when it was a guy he used the sword, or at the very least clearly tried to hit the guy with the sword

and now that I look back, I doubt Ichigo will fight to kill any of the Quincies who really don't pose a true threat or killed any of his friends. Even in previous Arcs, I barely remember Ichigo struggling to really kill an enemy, many times when he has a chance to do that, he avoids it or the enemy becomes an ally. And the scene where he warns the girl to dodge the attack clearly leaves the intention that he is not looking to use lethal force, at most to incapacitate the enemy.
