You're digging up my trauma from wolf's rain. I honestly think that some writers get power-trippy and want to give the finger to their fans, or act out some sadistic fantasy on their own MC. I'm not saying that I'm against character death, it just needs to make thematic or poetic sense. Wolf's rain made no sense. The whole show was great, just delete the last episode for me please. I almost didn't make it through the first season of to your eternity, but luckily I had a friend that begged me to keep watching, but I almost gave up multiple times. I shouldn't have to wait an entire season for this kind of payoff.

In fact, Haruka gets a lot more beaten up in the LNs than I think the anime will show. For example, in a later volume after his skills, stats, and gear all grow way stronger than his body allows, he gets something that actually improves his physical body itself. Haruka's reaction? "Cool, guess now I won't have to ask X to go pick up one of my arms because they got ripped off in combat." Not from the enemy hitting him mind you, just from the strain Haruka puts on his body since his skills and stats way outpace what his body can handle.
