Reminds me of the old school nethack days. As far as I’m aware, no other games (except maybe derivatives) break stuff inside the chest if you’re too aggressive in opening it.

At one point I had the barbarian in our party carry the entire loot box so we could find someone who COULD unlock it (Or at least, find a cleric to get the investigator unpetrified so they could)
