I for one am very glad 5e did away with the "have to be literally behind the enemy" rule and just made it more of "attack the weak point for massive damage"

Fighter doesn't pay taxes, give to charity, or move to a spot on the board that helps Thief get her sneak attack.

Throwback to the time the sorcerer said “yeah I’ll be within 5 ft of this bad guy of unknown strength so the rogue can get sneak attack damage” and then I got a nat20 for 41 damage on a dagger throw, killing it instantly. I think I did almost double it’s max HP, actually. Teamwork makes the dream work, but Fighter prefers nightmares, I think.

Part of the reason that while playing Lem I've prepped only status and summoning spells is because people keep standing in places that would prevent me from using damaging spells with an aoe. Also casting fireball in a crowded room is frowned upon, even if I do use the Nonlethal Spell metamagic.

Our alchemist's battle cry is "DO YOU TRUST ME?" The answer is definitely not, we've all suffered his AoE attacks many times.
