My Star Wars group did this last month, and I felt like such a dummy. We were investigating an ancient temple supposed to be full of treasure, rolled up to the doorway and started to investigate for how to get it open. The GM actually had to step in OOC and tell us to just try opening it, since we definitely were going to spend an hour poking around an unlocked door...
