A paladin may call upon his divine bond to enhance his “weapon.”

In the same way that all drow are chaotic good outsiders who just want a chance to show the world that not all of their kind are truly evil, succubi are just bad girls waiting for a good guy to show them the error of their ways. Right?

Look, I understand that redeeming the villain can be a cool storyline. And redeeming a villain that happens to be supernaturally sexy is a nice bonus. It’s a conquest and a conquest! It’s doing good and getting laid! It’s ever so slightly contrived!

Let’s face it: there are only so many things you can do with a seduction demon in a narrative sense. You can fall to their wicked ways, get tricked once and then regret it, or smite them. The only other option is to win the bad girl over to Team Good Guy. You’ve got to remember though, demons are the literal personifications of evil. You can talk about alignment being relative, but if you’re playing in any flavor D&D then these things aren’t just aligned with evil on a philosophical level. They’re raw, elemental, black as pitch, puregrade dag nasty texts-in-movie-theaters evil. Just because succubi happen to have nice racks, it does not mean that they’re any different than a bloody-handed babau or a Skeksis-looking vrock. I don’t think anybody would try and fuck one of those freak shows onto the side of righteousness. And if you think about it, a succubus ought to be especially resistant to the attempt. That’s its main thing, after all!

I dunno. Maybe I’m a little harsh on Paladin there. He’s trying to do the right thing. But in my opinion, no amount of infusing l’il Paladin with divine might is going to redeem a demon.

What do you guys think? Have you ever tried to use the powers of—ahem—love and kindness to turn a monster to the path of righteousness? Did it work? Dit it feel contrived? Let’s hear it in the comments!

Putting in the hard work.

Or you can find a middle ground: forming a contract to come by for regular "smiting" sessions as long as the succubus lays off the local populace. Everybody wins!

I said it once, and I'll say it again. Enemies With Benefits. Ahem. The idea of conversion from one side to another is always a fun plot hook. Doing so with a creature so inherently tied to their alignment is tricky, and the kind of thing you only hear about in legends. (Minor spoiler: There's an opportunity to do something similar in a certain Paizo AP that features the mythic rules.) That said, moral gray areas are always fun to explore, as are alternatives to the good/evil dynamic. What if an earth-born Oread was trained as an Air Kineticist? Would they be seen as a traitor? A heretic? Or just an oddball with patient friends and family who just assume they'll "come to their senses" eventually?

Having just played a kineticist, I am now kicking myself for not going that route--it sounds amazing!

Paladin is getting played. He's using up all his Smite slots on the attempt, leaving him weak and defenseless when they finish.

Oops, posted early. I was going to say that I like to seduce enemies as well, particularly ones you wouldn't expect. Captain Smitepipe up there, along with the sex demon, are obvious seduction choices, but where is the love for the bugbears, the kobolds, the wraith? Has anyone ever gazed into the big, warm eye of a Nothic and (after making a successful con save to keep your flesh intact) said "I love you?" Love can bloom on a battlefield. 🙂 (Also I love the art, very sexy.)

Following that train of thought, I'm toying with the idea of playing an Ifrit with a Water Elemental. One that he infuses with Fire-based evolutions, of course. Does that make it a Boiling Water Elemental or a Steam Elemental?

There's more than one way to win an encounter, and you have to think that all those monsters haunting lonely temple ruins and caves are in serious need of some tender, loving care. Being an antagonist for the PCs has got to make going on dates a particularly dangerous pastime.
