When Laurel and I first sat down to discuss our Patreon, we realized that a pinup gallery could be a good idea. And hey, why not turn it into a fully fledged spin-off? I pitched the title Handbook of Erotic Fantasy, we both giggled like idiots, and a new strip was born. The only trouble was that our main characters consisted of tall and skinny, short and hairy, and Fighter's big ‘ol lantern jaw. Of course there was Thief, and we fully intend to let her shake that forked tail of hers. However, we soon realized that it was asking an awful lot of the poor girl to pin an entire comic’s worth of sex appeal on her lavender shoulders.
“Hey,” said I. “What if we introduce a band of femme fatale bounty hunters? We could do a gag with some evil twins, have our bounty hunters track down the Heroes, and—”
But Laurel was no longer listening. She was in full-on character design mode, and all manner of catgirls came tumbling from her pen.
For Magus in particular, we thought it would be fun to create “the world’s greatest escape artist.” If you happen to be an adventurer who’s into S&M it makes for a great cover story.
