Patreon Update Announcement (Patreon)

Hey everyone! I know that many of you have already figured out that Handbook of Heroes is on its final arc, and that means that there are some big changes coming. The Handbook comic will officially end on August 10th, so I wanted to give everyone a heads up about what will be happening on the Patreon:

Finale Patreon Rewards

For those patrons at our Hero and Epic Hero tiers, I will be mailing out a special 8x10 print, a 5x7 mini print, and a very special enamel pin as a thank you for your support of Handbook. Anyone subscribed to these tiers for August will get signed versions of the prints and the pin mailed to them on our regular mailout date of August 15th. If you’re at a lower tier and would like these and don’t want to up your subscription, I’ll also post a sneak peak and a link the week ahead where you can decide if you’d prefer to purchase them directly from the Handbook shop.

Handbook Content Downloads

As the Patreon switches gears to my new project, I’ll be removing the Handbook content and combining them into zipped files that will be available for download on the Handbook site--so that you’ll still have access to all of the extra content that we posted here. The page will be password protected for Patreon users, and I’ll post the password here once the downloads are ready to go. 

New Webcomic Launch

Even though Handbook’s story is ending, a new one is just getting started! I’ve already started teasing my new webcomic, Facet, which will be launching to the public on August 15th and this Patreon page will be the home of the project that I’ve been planning for the last five years. Claire wrote the first draft of book one of the story from my notes and outline, and I also worked with author Richard Ford Burley as I refined it to the final version and wrote out setting details. 

As mentioned in the preview, Facet is an original fantasy adventure story, set on a strange planet that is struggling with the sinister spread of parasitic minerals, warring nations and the difficulties of mining actual magic. It will be a weekly comic posted every Monday. In addition to being a story that I am excited to tell, Facet will be building a 5th Edition supplement here on Patreon that allows readers to enter the comic with me in their own home games. My goal is to give people tools to explore the world I’m creating, and tell stories alongside the one I’ve dreamed up. I’m hoping to create an environment where Patrons can give feedback, try out new ideas, and perhaps even have their characters make Easter egg appearances in the comic as it develops.

Facet’s Patreon Tiers will be:

• $2 - See all Facet comics posted a day before they go live on the website to the general public, as well as a weekly sketch post of my drafts and concepts for the comic.

• $5 - Weekly posts of either monsters, items or spells relating to the current story arc in the comic. Once a month, Patrons will also receive a playable map of a setting featured in the comic, and a lore post with in-depth information about the world. On an irregular basis, Patrons will also get new Lineages, Subclasses, Backgrounds and other special posts, which are tied to certain events in the comic.

• $20 - Patrons will receive physical merchandise in the mail, which can include prints, stickers, pins, or other goodies. Patrons at all tiers will get a sneak peak of physical merchandise each month and can decide whether or not to opt in for individual rewards.

• $40 - Patrons will receive a customized artist sketch card, which can either feature characters from the comic or their own requests.

After the official launch and the Patreon switchover, we’ll have 10 comics to start us off with Facet, 2 new Monsters, 1 Magic Item, 1 Map, 1 new Lineage and some general Lore about the world the story is set in. After August 15th, we’ll adhere to the new weekly and monthly schedules for each tier.

Endless Gratitude

Finally, I want to say that while I am going to be very sad to say goodbye to Handbook (I’m tearing up even as I write this), we could not have had this amazing comic without all of you. I am so very thankful for each and every one of our Patrons, for your comments and your suggestions and the ridiculous meme posts that I can’t keep up with on the Discord. You are all amazing, and I want to say from the bottom of my heart that I feel incredibly honored that you all chose to support this project. I really hope that you’ll stay on to check out Facet, I have worked for a really long time on this story and I’m excited to tell it, but if it’s not your thing, I want to give an extra big thank you before you go.
