I so badly wanted to answer this question we received from an anonymous person on Tumblr!  But I can't answer anon's on Tumblr for some reason, so I will answer it here.  They asked...

"Regarding today's strip - "Two Mares Diverge" - It is a lovely strip, well-drawn and paced, and clear in message; but I'm not sure that the title given really means what you think it does. To Diverge (as in "Diverging") means to split from one into many; to Converge ("Converging") is for separate paths, narratives, streams, individuals, to join together in common direction/purpose. SO you may wish to title this "Two Mares Converge", instead. - VulpesRex, who is not a Tumblr member" - Anonymous

We purposely choose the name Diverge.  I will explain why!  Not only is the name a reference to a famous poem by Robert Frost, but we actually meant diverge!  Not converge!

Diverge means "to move or extend in different directions from a common point : draw apart."

Converge means "to tend or move toward one point or one another : come together: meet."

And this comic, Lily and Starlight both have different motives.  Lily is trying to unite them a little bit and maybe find out more about Starlight.  Starlight is trying to use this moment to capitalize on her.... like... of Spike.

So these two are not uniting.  They are not converging, but still diverging! There was actually a lot of discussion on the title to this episode and we had a response ready to go just incase someone pointed this out!  We're not crazy (most of the time)!  We knew what we were doing!  *Goes off into maniacal laughter*

I guess the team diverged on the title beforehand...
