This is such an underrated classic. I understand why you didn't like the second half as much. I love it, but I think it's because I grew up with it. As an adult you think more about it instead of just having fun with it. If you are interested (Which I understand you might not be) Theres a documentary about this on Hulu, ("Life After The Navigator") partially about the child actor, but also a lot of behind the scenes stuff. For example, the girl who was friends with David at the base and you said she should be the girl he had a crush on at the beginning, that was actually in the original script! But they thought it was weird and changed it. Another fun fact, the voice of Max is actually Pee-Wee Herman (Paul Rubens) but he wanted to be uncredited, so he's listed as Paul Maul. The documentary is really interesting if you were curious. I think the second part was dragged out because of Pee Wee doing the voice and they just wanted more time of him making jokes.... But... I've watched this movie many times since I was 5 or so (31 years...) and I JUST realized Max got all his memories... but didn't know what music was?? Weird!
