I feel like the "family" Spot goes with at the end wasn't his birth family. Note the different hair and eye color, along with the different choice of clothes. Plus that family had 2 kids already with them. Spot only recounted his parents and the fact that they were dead. The reason Spot tried to go towards the dad of that family when he first saw him, was because it had been so long since he saw other humans. Then the whole family went and accepted him into their family (the mother especially, by pressing her forehead to his. Followed by the rest of the family.) All this to say, Spot's real parents did die, and the family he ended up with adopted him into their family.

On the animation style. Yes the scenery is beautiful. I feel like they used this film to show off how realistic they could make scenery and water when done with animation. The dinosaurs and other animals in the movie were done in a more cartoony, almost wonky style when compared to the scenery. But that, I think at least, is the charm of this movie. It's a different art style. But not unheard of. It's like the movie Christopher Robin but almost reversed. Where the characters Pooh and his friends were all pretty much animated (realistically I might add) But everything is filmed live action. I don't know it's hard to explain in words. Hence why they did so with visuals. If they had made the whole movie in the animation style of the dinosaurs and animals, we would get on to them for a different reason. But if they had made the dinos and stuff more realistic they would run into a problem when say animating Arlo's cuts and bruises, and the bug's head being pulled off. I think they could've animated the dinos and stuff more realistically if they needed to. However, it would've meant a lot of problems making this cute story appealing to children. Along with other problems.
