Hey Nick, so happy to hear you liked this movie, it use to be Disney Channel's annual tradition to play this movie during Black History Month but they stopped playing it almost a decade ago. As you noticed, the movie is based on true events of the Dellums family, the Murder of Steven Biko, and the South African Apartheids in 1977. Most of the events in the movie are kept in tact, except for Mahree's character, her name was actually Carrie. After returning to South Africa, Piper never heard from her and Piper's letters to Carrie were returned to sender. It's like the South African government "silenced" Carrie and no public records exist of Carrie for the Dellums to look for her. Anyways, I appreciate the reaction, can't wait to see my other reaction request, thank you.

Use to watch this all the time, ngl it’s funny seeing how shock you were that racism was still a thing in the 70s. My older sister was a little kid in early 70s and she wasn’t allowed to go to the state fair the same time the whites were. They had separate times and days for the “blacks” and the whites. I definitely experienced discrimination in my life, but I feel like people are a bit more settle now and don’t outright say it like they did back then. Anyway glad you reacted to this one of my favorite Dcom Disney movies.
