Ok Nick. I was going to send this message to you privately, but I decided to post it here so that other people could see how I feel about it, know that I'm the one that picked it for you, and know that this reaction has my FULL approval. I fully intend to watch the full reaction, but I had a feeling I knew what your reaction to the film would be so I jumped to the end to see your overall opinion of it.... And I was right. First let me reiterate that, while some of your patrons might be disappointed when you don't like something, for me, it is PERFECTLY FINE for you not to like something. I also appreciate it when you give detailed feedback as to WHY you don't like something, because it helps me fine-tune the profile of what you like in movies and allows me to adjust my choices for you. In fact, I will also say that I'm very proud of you, because you once told me that you have a hard time articulating your thoughts, especially when you have a negative opinion of something, but lately you've been very good at giving details about what opinions you have and why. Now as to this movie - your reaction does not surprise me in the least. Way back in November, the very first set of options I gave you were Steven Spielberg options because you had liked every movie of his up to that point. I threw this one in there, not actually believing that you would choose it, and being surprised when you did. But after you chose it I immediately had personal reservations because I know that this movie came out in an era before Alien, before Arrival, before War of the Worlds.... This movie was a big deal AT THE TIME it came out, but to somebody who's grown up in an age of modern CGI and Marvel movies, the plot of this movie can definitely seem EXTREMELY slow paced and, well... for lack of a better word, boring. Even for me, who generally likes this movie, there are some parts of this movie that do seem to drag on forever. In many ways this movie seems like a 2-hour setup to an amazing special effects punchline at the very end (which was all practical by the way, not CGI... CGI didn't really exist back then). But even so, the payoff might not seem worth it to somebody who felt like they had to slog through the first 2 hours of the movie. And your reaction to the family is also not unique either. In fact one of the big criticisms of the plot of this movie is that the main guy seems to very easily abandon his family and just go off with the aliens without giving them a second thought. But in any case, the point of this long rambling comment is to reassure you that I fully anticipated your lackluster feelings about this movie and it is perfectly OKAY and UNDERSTANDABLE. I am not offended or disappointed in any way and I hope nobody else is either. You should never censor yourself or be afraid of what other people's reactions to YOUR reaction are going to be. And again, I'm very proud of how well you've been articulating your criticisms lately.

I would like to state that I can 100% back up what Holly is stating. It is indeed perfectly acceptable to not end up liking a movie you've reacted to, and for any reason you may have. I know that for a good majority of us that watch your reactions, we don't watch them to see you give your seal of approval on film. We watch your reactions because we like the personality you have and unique opinions you'll have on what you watch. It would be rude and downright odd of anyone to expect you to like every single movie you see. You are a human, no human on this earth likes every single movie they have seen. I like some movies that others don't like and I don't like movies others do like. And that's ok. And if anyone is upset or annoyed with you because you're a human being with your own unique tastes and opinions, then they can go step on a lego.
