There are 8 Mary Poppins books. Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins Comes Back, Mary Poppins opens the door, Mary Poppins in the park, Mary Poppins A to Z, Mary Poppins in the kitchen, Mary Poppins Cherry Tree Lane, and Mary Poppins the House Next Door. None of her books are named Mary Poppins Returns. Even though this is one of my all-time favorite Disney films, there are lots of inaccuracies. Walt Disney wasn't present when P. L. Travers was in CA. P. L. Travers famously loathed the Disney film, so much so that she wrote in in her will to never let Disney make another movie out of one of her books. P. L. Travers hated the animation and thought that the movie script watered down her beloved characters and the plot of her book. She didn't like Mr. Van Dyke as Bert. Although I think she liked Julie Andrews portrayal, she thought she was too pretty. P. L. Travers, however, I think I read that she oversaw a little bit of the script for the stage musical Mary Poppins before she died in 1996. The musical premiered in 2006. Unlike in this movie, P. L. Travers wasn't alone. When she was in her 40's, she adopted a son, but that was very complicated because she shipped him off to boarding school and neglected to tell him that he had a twin brother until his twin brother showed up at their house when her son was 17 years old. Many people struggled to understand anything about Ms. Travers' past because she always gave different answers when asked about it and she kept her past experiences all bottled up inside.
