Just to address one of your lingering questions, you missed some dialogue as Ozma was freeing Dorothy from the clinic. Dorothy asked, "Who's that screaming?" and Ozma answered, "Patients who've been damaged, locked in the cellar!"

Well electrical shock therapy didn’t exist until 1938 but in this universe it existed in 1899 and back then they usually ended up frying the brains of the patients because they didn’t really have the ability to control the electrical currents. Also this movie was a sequel to the book version of Wizard of Oz and this movie adapted 2 different OZ books and kind of changed the characters around a little bit this movie is way closer to the books than the original which really was inspired by the books.

Hey Ryan, thanks so much for explaining, I picked up on Ozma telling her the patients are locked in the cellar, just didn’t know if she was lying or not about it haha.

"A witch with no magic is a miserable creature indeed" is still one of the best lines in fantasy cinema. Ahh dude I'm so glad you reacted to this; as a millennial this movie shit me up when I was a kid and it's still so exhilarating and heartbreaking to me. My favourite part of your reaction was when you got emotional to Tik-Tok crying 😭 Still, I know I'm being petty, but it really triggered me that you kept referring to Billina as "he". Billina is a "she". She's not a rooster. You can see she's a hen. She had a female voice, Tik-Tok called her "Mrs. Hen", and she laid an egg... dude, learn zoology 😂

L. Frank Baum wrote an additional 13 Oz books after the success of 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'. This movie combines elements from several of them. Its use of the ruby slippers, and their role in bringing Dorothy home make this a direct sequel to the 1939 film whether it wants to be or not. The slippers in the book were silver and had a different magical ability. After the Wizard failed to take Dorothy home, she had to go see Glinda who provided her with the means to go home. The Emerald City was not made of emeralds. Only the outside wall was. Visitors were required to put on green-tinted goggles to enter. Also, the Nome king's allergy to eggs was a prideful excuse. He cut himself with a knife while trying to crack open an egg and subsequently banned eggs (not knives) from his kingdom claiming he was allergic.

David Patterson

I said 'allergy', I meant 'poison'. The character design in this movie was taken straight from the illustrations in the books.
