always LOVED the animal interactions, the animation, and the music in this one!

A few quick thoughts while I watch. 1) The animal you thought was a beaver, I think it was a groundhog. I think. 2) The Skunk (who later is called Flower as a name) isn't in love with Bambie. He was just very bashful at the start, the way lots of kids are. 3) The other buck Bambie was fighting wasn't her boyfriend. He was just another male that wanted Faline. The fight between him and Bambie was meant to represent the kind of fight two males have over a prospective mate in the animal kingdom during the rut. To me, this movie is a great example of a character driven story, versus a plot driven one. I've heard people say things about how some stories are driven by plot, and others are driven by character, and I never really understood it until recently. The best way to explain it I guess would be this. A plot driven story is where things happen to drive the story forward and characters act on or react to them, the plot shaping who they become. Whereas a character-driven story revolves around who the characters are, showing things about their lives without events necessarily working to create the story. I think that's why the plot felt "weaker." Character-driven stories are often about a particular person's (or in this case, animal's) life unfolding a certain way and how that shapes them. These are usually low on action and more introspective, and they can come across as a series of events that seem more random. That isn't to say that character driven plots are not as good. They can be. But they do tend to have a slower pace. To me, this story is not about what happens to Bambie or the things he goes through while growing from a boy into a man (a fawn into a buck), but rather, they are about Bambie himself and what it was like for him learning about life and growing up to become the next Great Prince Of The Forest. This is not to say your reaction is wrong. I too felt that this story was a little slow on first viewing. These are just thoughts I figured out while watching, and ones I hope you might find interesting. I was surprised (in a good way) to see that you didn't know the word Twitterpated. It's one of those things that's permeated pop culture to the point where people will say they're twitterpated, meaning they're in love. It was good that it wasn't spoiled for you though, because otherwise Friend Owl's explanation might not have been as funny or interesting. I love Friend Owl. Him and Bambie's mother are my favorite side characters. Friend Owl is so funny, and Bambie and his mom have such a great relationship. I cried when she died the first time I saw this movie as a kid. Glad you liked this one, Nick. Looking forward to more Disney with you, and more reactions in general.

I’m pretty sure this was the movie that started off the trend with Disney movies where the mother or parent dies or is gone 😬
