I saw this movie when I was a kid and it sparked my imagination wildly. It's really cleverly made, bringing a story to life and making the reader a part of it and as the empress spoke of others sharing Bastian's story, it was pretty meta, referencing us, the audience, giving kids and probably even some adults more creative spark to imagine themselves in such an adventure. Pretty clever. Even as an adult this movie ages well.
