I love the core message of this show being that not only violence is not the answer, but that you can achieve healing and closure without lowering yourself to the level of those who hurt you. We often get told to "be the bigger person" and it makes it seem like an easy thing to do but it's not. And this episode showed perfectly how difficult it is but how much closure and relief refraining from revenge can give you. I also love how Aang is the driving force behind Katara's choice here. His air-nomad ideology of not hurting a living thing because all life is sacred really rubbed off on Katara here, even if just subconsciously. And I think it's awesome he supported her right to make her own choice rather than try and stop her. It's just so much for a kid's show to show all that.

Thank you so much for recognizing what Aang was really doing in that episode! Some (if not, a lot) of people think Aang was trying to force his ideals onto Katara, but that was not it at all. He was just trying to save her a lot of regret she would've had if she'd chosen revenge!
