Don't know if you know Nick, but this movie is based on the real life events of the Tsar Nicholas II of imperial Russia, being overthrown and killed by the russian people in 1918. The Tsar and the entire royal family was killed, and their bodies recovered in 1991, all except Anastacia's, leading to a resurgence of rumours that she had survived the revolution, rumours that had been going on since the killing of her family, where multiple women through history has claimed to be Anastasia. Anastasia's grave was finally found in 2007, showing that she was killed in 1918, same as the rest of her family. The villain, Rasputin, is based on real life Rasputin, a religious "healer", who befriended the Tsar. He was greatly disliked by the public, and his reputation may have had a part to play in the downfall of the Romanov dynasty. Rasputin was assassinated before the revolution, by other members of the court, and this is where he really seems more like the animated Rasputin. First they gave him tea and cookies laced with cyanide, which should kill anyone instantly. Then they gave him wine, also poisoned, which he also did not die of. In the middle of the night, they finally shot him in the chest, went away for a couple of hours, came back, were then attacked by Rasputin himself, who was still not dead. He then finally died when he was shot in the head. Sounds like he might have really sold his soul to the devil to be able to survive so much hahaha xD

I wish more reactors went into this movie knowing that it's historical fiction. The voiceover at the beginning is what really happened... I wish I could remember whether the voiceover was real or just an actor explaining the historical significance from the grandmother's point of view. The DVD I had when I was a kid explained all this in the special features. Sadly, I don't think it got transferred to Disney+ when Anastasia did.
