I actually like the live action better. People don't like it because of the lack of character growth, but the true message of it is how important it is to be your authentic self. There's points in the live action where she requests people to kill her, because she isn't able to express her true personality and strengths as a woman in society while being respected. The live action also takes everything more seriously. It's hard for me to watch the animated version now that I see how much it glosses over the issues with humor. The live action is probably best suited for teenagers and adults though, not kids.
