Highly recommend Flight of the Navigator

I love this film. It's so well crafted and I love stories like this where there's humour but the story itself is serious. There's a real warmth to this film and its characters. Mikey drunkenly saying that he loves Axel. Jenny's face lighting up when she meets Axel and her visible sadness when she hears about Mikey. Of course the developping relationship between Axel, Rosewood, Taggart and finally Bogomil. You liked them all. I always enjoyed the relationship between Axel and Jenny. When I saw this film as a teen I thought it was novel to have a loving but platonic relationship between a man and a woman in an 80's cop movie. Turns out the original script had them get romantic but when Murphy became the lead that was changed because the producers didn't want to perturb certain audiences with an interracial couple, especially a Black man with a White woman. Turns out that not so long ago a foolproof way to prevent a woman to only be cast as a love interest in a genre movie was racism. Goddamn. There's a lot of previously featured on this channel actors in this movie. Some have been noted in other comments but I'll make a list: Paul Reiser (Jeffrey) - Burke in Aliens Michael Champion (Casey the grey-haired henchman that knocks out Axel and gets shot by Billy) - Helm (Michael Ironside's goon with the glasses) in Total Recall. Ronny Cox (Bogomil) - Dick Jones in Robocop and also in Total Recall as the Big Bad Cohagen (he has to :"Give these people aiiirer!') Steven Berkoff (Maitland) - The evil Russian officer Podovsky in Rambo 2. John Ashton (Taggart) - Rival bounty hunter Marvin in Midnight Run. Finally, Martin Brest directed Midnight Run and Scent of a Woman. People have been recommending 48hrs since it's Murphy's first movie and a very important film. Directed by Walter Hill ( Red Heat) it's very much the father of the buddy cop movies and the probably the clearest example of the form before Lethal Weapon. However, I might need to rewatch it. I wasn't as enamored by it as some. I found it to be a harsh film, and I really disliked some aspect of it. I don't want to go into it so you can have a clear head if you watch it. It's still a cornerstone of Murphy's career. I prefer some other Walter Hill movies like his first film Hard Times, and his more outlandish movies like The Warriors and Streets of Fire really agree with me. Those are really fun and Streets in particular is a really unique genre-bending movie.
