There was a period of roughly ten years where Jean Reno was THE Frenchman of Hollywood, especially genre films. From Mission: Impossible to Godzilla or The Da Vinci Code. He started his career in France in the 80's working with Luc Besson. His true breakout came for his scene stealing supporting turn in Besson 1988 film's "The Big Blue" which was the most successful French film of the 1980's. To me, Ronin is Reno's best Hollywood film, and a great showcase for him as the movie's second lead. FYI, Ronin's international trailer is a favourite of mine and the voice-over says Reno's name out loud at the end.
