One Interpretation I've read is that it's about communism... The Berlin Wall..being kept in the dark..the western world is the light that can't penetrate..every stone is a tear...opression..the home that your a part of is the communist country and being always by your side is your constantly being watched. Big brother is watching..the part about being a part of the foundation is that you have to pretend that you were a part of building up this communist country...the garden outside is a false vision to show the rest of the world..like see? This beautiful garden and you helped build it and also the country..the hammer is a communist symbol. The nails...all these radical things are being inserted into you...more oppression...being told the rest of the world is bad and out to get you..every nail.. is something negative about the outside world and/or something positive about communism...

I don't believe its necessarily about physical abuse or murder..could be about emotional/ mental abuse..you cant see the light you feel even more trapped because who can see emotional abuse? The garden could be her inner world her escape? Maybe she wants to shut everthing out because she just can't take it anymore...your thoughts are very hard to escape from.. Some think that emotional and mental abuse aren't real or that it's nothing, but actually getting hit yes it hurts but the pain is only temporary..the bruise will fade...being told your worthless and stupid everday for so long that you actually start believing it and you'll be wanting to build a wall around yourself too. Also all that stays with you and the pain is even worse because it gets into your subconscious and its very hard to reverse years and years of negativity constantly being hammered into you...
