The future of Pure (Patreon)

After many attempts to transform Pure to support “Linear Color Space” (LCS), I came to the conclusion that Pure utilizes too many workaround strategies to look great in “Gamma Color Space” (Gamma). Unfortunately, those workarounds turned out to be incompatible with LCS shaders. So I had no choice but to take drastic measures in order to ensure long term compatibility with LCS.
Pure 0.271 is being renamed to “Pure Gamma” and is now considered version 1.0. Pure in its current state is a done deal for me. Its lighting calculations are, in my opinion, absolutely suitable and the optimum that can be achieved with Gamma shaders.
However, to achieve even better results with LCS, I decided to build the future Pure on an already existing and functional basis.
I use the “default” weather style from Ilja and will incorporate all the features that make Pure so special:
The skydomes, its realistic light levels in daylight condition, extended ambient lighting, the advanced exposure calculation, its scripting interface and therefore the interface for modders as well as the control via Pure Config are part of the new “Pure LCS”.
The initial release of Pure LCS at the beginning of July will contain all of Pure's basic elements. The follow up release in early September will add skydomes and Pure's shaders, such as sunblinding-, groundfog-, lightning- and the landscape shader. With this update the basic re-work will be completed and a new foundation for further development is created.
Currently all Pure LCS features are working so nothing stands in the way of an early July release.
