I'm one of those authors who likes to think about how the abilities in his stories work. This reflects on my stories, because my characters think about such things as well. That can lead to a lot of time spent without anything "happening" in a story. However, I consider the exploration of possibilities to be one of the interesting parts.

Thus, when I am reading (mostly fantasy and cultivation things, these days) I am more interested in certain parts. This kind of thing comes up a lot in cultivation type stories, though not necessarily always in my preferred manner.  Main character gets stronger. Ok, cool. How? The answer is usually "body gets stronger" or "their cultivation level increases". Ok. How did that happen. Many have explanations for bodily cultivation, at various levels of detail.

Then the main character kills someone with their newfound power. Cool, I guess. I enjoy some of that. At some point, though, I want to get back into the detailed explanation on how every cell got stronger, though maybe not all at once.
