I'm gonna be honest, I almost had these siblings miss each other- but there was no sensible way for it to happen. Sure, I could have had Douglas leave for Irieby after Lucy left to look for him but then he would have immediately gone back to find her where she was looking for him. Likewise, she could have ended up not going to Irieby to sell to the countess... but why? She'd eventually end up there because the countess has money and the potential desire to buy paper. Lucy wanted to find information on Douglas and therefore would travel around the safe parts of Bryria, and thus everything fell into place. Sometimes, life is just convenient- and made that way by smart people who really want to keep you around because you're useful.
