Major Announcement! Potentially Very Good News. (Patreon)

Hello everyone!  One of you, I will not mention the name, has either sent me, or let me borrow a 3080 graphics card.  It may or may not be the exact model shown above.

If whomever sent me this wishes to identify yourself you can do so in the responses below.  But feel free to send him a neighborly "Thank you kindly" below.

What does this mean?

Well for this exact moment, not much.  The power supply in my machine likely cannot run this beast of a card.  I think he is sending me a 1000w power supply as well.  We shall see.

Once a suitable power supply is installed, this will mean Nadia's animation will render much faster.  It will likely also mean that I will need to re-render the entire thing from the start because the CPU and GPU render engines look quite different.  They both look great, but they both look different.  But this thing is so fast, starting all over again probably will not matter much.  I will see how it looks and how fast it goes once it is running and decide then if I need to start over again from the start (and how much time that will amount to).

There will also be a bit of a learning curve involved.  It is an almost totally different rendering engine, with it's own limitations and quirks.  So it may take me a while to get it up and running.  Lightwave's has it's native rendering engine for the CPU, and the GPU rendering engine is by another company, it is called Octane.

One other thing to note is this may or may not be here for the long term.  He said to use this for Nadia's animation, and then after that I may either keep it for future animations, or send it back to him.  There will be negotiations involved there..  So I'll let you know what happens with that.

So anyway, a special thank you to who sent this to me.  I look forward to fitting this into Big Blue (my new computer) and seeing how it all works.  It's funny, the GPU in Big Blue now is a 710.  The cheapest one I could find. :)
