A friend bought me a $200 training course for Houdini (The king of simulators). With a coupon he only spent $11 which is a nice deal.

I could never buy Houdini in my current situation as it is FOUR FREAKING THOUSAND DOLLARS.

But in theory, I could do my soft body sims in the free apprentice version of Houdini and export the results as an .MDD or Alembic file and bring that data into Lightwave for rendering.

In theory.

OFFICIAL 2016 AICP Sponsor Reel Director's Cut by Method Studios

Method Design was tapped by production company RSA to concept and create this year’s AICP sponsor reel. The AICP awards celebrate global creativity within commercial production. Method Design wanted to create an entertaining piece of design that encapsulates the innovative and prolific nature of this industry. Our aim was to showcase the AICP sponsors as various dancing avatars which playfully reference the visual effects used throughout production. Motion capture, procedural animation and dynamic simulations combine to create a milieu of iconic pop dance moves that become an explosion of colorful fur, feathers, particles and more. Also I hear it's a bit hard to use as represented by this tutorial parody: https://vimeo.com/221178360

Heh that's cute. Yeah I hear the thing with Houdini is EVERYTHING is done with nodes.. Which sounds interesting. If I can wrap my head around it it could be very powerful.

CGMan

yeah.. I can already do cloth tearing pretty well.. Not procedurally like that of course. The thing I can't do so well (if at all) is self-collisions.. That's where Houdini spanks Lightwave.

RocketNowWow

Seeing someone grow out of a entire outfit piece by piece procedurally would be awesome to witness though. ;)

Meanwhile I have a wall of a learning curve in front of me. :D

I just watched a video of this software. Even if 4K is clearly a lot, I can understand that price. It's really impressive.

CGMan

yeah as far as I am aware it's the best in the industry for sims.
