this movie has such a special place in my heart - i used to have it on vhs but it had been recorded on tv, so it had all the advertisements from the tv on it too haha. takes me back to my childhood fun fact! in enchanted, the old men who dance in 'that's how you know' with giselle and the old ladies are actually the chimney sweeps from this movie!

Mary Poppins- Thank you so very much for such a fun reaction to one of my absolute favorite Disney movies, Timothee!! I absolutely adore this movie, and I very much love Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews... two actors I grew up watching in so many of their movies and shows too. Ever since I was a little girl, and they're two actors I very much love and admire. For Dick Van Dyke... I love Bye Bye Birdie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Diagnosis Murder, etc... And for Julie Andrews... I love her in The Sound of Music, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Princess Diaries movies, etc... There's a big difference in the way people who watch this movie musical today, compared to people who've grown up watching this movie since they were little, or even those who first watched this movie back in the 60s. Sadly, I believe that adults and even children who might watch this beautiful movie today for the very first time, wouldn't appreciate and love Mary Poppins for many reasons. Because so many people today have lost the appreciation and understanding of the classics if we have never watched them when we were younger. This may not be so for everyone, but I have heard many people I know who've said they've hated many classics I love after they've given them a chance and watched them today and as adults. And I doubt that many of the young adults and kids today know who these actors even are. So tragic. Many people would most likely say that Dick Van Dyke is an outdated actor, as Julie Andrews is probably an outdated actress as well. Dick Van Dyke is corny and his jokes are cheesy, and I deeply love him for these reasons. He's one of the most energetic actors I know. So full of life. His facial expressions are priceless, and I love watching him dance! I love him for many reasons. And Julie Andrews is a sensational and beautiful singer who acts as though she is performing in a classic on stage, which is where she came from just before she became casted for the role of Mary Poppins. She performed in many shows on stage. Today, youngsters see these two as old, and maybe even without talent. Which is why I am so grateful to my father for giving me my love for classics and musicals such as Mary Poppins, because he raised me on them. Julie Andrews got her role as Maria in The Sound of Music, thanks to her role as Jane and Michael's nanny here in Mary Poppins. Walt Disney and everyone else involved in bringing this beloved musical to life fell in love with her and her voice. And rightly so. Also... You didn't seem to recognize this, but in regards to the actor in old man makeup playing the head of the bank... Mr. Dawes Sr. is actually played by Dick Van Dyke. A fun fact I didn't recognize when I watched this movie over and over when I was little. I actually became shocked when I first came to discover this many years later despite having seen Mary Poppins so many times. So, so funny! Brilliant makeup and prosthetics. :) In regards to the relationship between Mary Poppins and Bert... There is absolutely no romance between them. They're merely close friends is all. The author, P.L. Travers explicitly and very firmly expressed to Walt Disney that he was not to ever allude to the idea that Mary and Poppins and Bert were anything other than just close friends when he created this movie. And it's never actually explained how they actually come to know each other so well. However, there are theories floating around that Mary Poppins might have helped Bert in the same way she helped Jane and Michael, when he was a boy too. Which is a beautiful theory. And it makes sense, given that we know even less about Bert than we know about Mary Poppins and who she is. This theory is never confirmed, nor is it ever denied. I love David Tomlinson as well. He's an amazing actor, whom I love as George Banks and as Emelius in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, another classic and beloved Disney movie I love with Angela Lansbury. I absolutely do feel for Mr. Banks in the ending, as he's listening to Bert sing to him to help him come to recognize that he is missing out on truly being with his family, and I especially feel badly for him as he's taking the long walk to the bank to get fired. But seeing him so happy with his family in the end is so beautiful, and this ending always makes me cry tears of joy. Glynis Johns as Winnifred, Karen Dotrice and Matthew Garber as Jane and Michael, Hermione Baddeley as Ellen, Reta Shaw as Mrs. Brill (Cook), and Ed Wyn as Uncle Albert are all fabulous too! I love all of these characters and their actors. The Constable and Admiral Boom too. :) And as for the music all throughout this Disney musical... I absolutely love every song. It's so, so hard for me to choose which songs stand out to me above the rest. However, if I really think about it... A few of my favorites are Step in Time, Let's Go Fly a Kite, and Feed the Birds. I quite love Step in Time despite its length, because I love watching Dick Van Dyke dance. He's absolutely phenomenal in everything he does. And this song is just a lot of fun and makes me want to dance right along with Bert, Mary Poppins, the kids, and all of the chimneysweeps. And both Let's Go Fly a Kite and Feed the Birds always makes me feel so emotional. I often cry during these songs because they make me feel so happy and even sad as well. Just as we're meant to feel. I would be happy to see you react to the newer Mary Poppins movie with Emily Blunt, which is actually a sequel to the original and not a remake. It's called Mary Poppins Returns. It's fun. Not nearly as good as Mary Poppins, but still fun. And I would highly recommend that you watch a movie called Saving Mr. Banks from 2013, starring Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks. This movie is actually about how Walt Disney comes to get the rights from the Mary Poppins books' author, P.L. Travers so he can create this beloved Disney musical, and it shows us how the inspiration for Mary Poppins comes to be born. This is an absolutely beautiful movie that I think you would love as I do. And I would love to see you react to it here on your channel for us. If you haven't seen it yet, then I will absolutely be requesting it for you. :) And lastly... Mary Poppins is heartbreakingly Walt Disney's final Disney movie he ever made before he died two years later, in 1966. And this movie meant the world to him. If you watch the movie, Saving Mr. Banks, you will come to understand why Mary Poppins meant so much to him. I am a deep admirer of Walt Disney. I love him and appreciate him for all the many movies and characters he created and brought to life for us ever since Mickey Mouse was first born so, so long ago. And he was a good, good man, who did so much for so many people. While I do love a lot of the Disney movies that have come out since his death, and even today... I feel like there are none quite as magical and powerful as those created by Walt Disney himself. And I think he would be heartbroken if he learned about what's come of his company and his theme parks today. Because Disney has most certainly changed for the worst over the years. Overall... I absolutely love Mary Poppins and its many actors, as well as all of its music. And I love how this movie is about helping George Banks to come to find the love for his family, in spite of how important his job is. And upon him finally truly coming to see his family, I believe wholeheartedly this is a lesson he has learned that will forever remain with him even after getting this new job in the ending. Thank you very much once more, my dear friend!! :) Sincerely, Heidi

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is another movie with animation mixed with live action made by the same director and crew as this movie but with a little more focus on plot. A little bit of Oscar history. Julie Andrews starred in My Fair Lady on Broadway, but when they made the movie they wouldn’t cast her because she wasn’t a movie star, so she made this instead and won the Best Actress Oscar over the actress in My Fair Lady.

As Jonathan, above, intimates, Ms Andrews had a distinguished career in London and on the Broadway stage, beginning with "The Boyfriend". After that, she originated signature starring roles in "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot", the show which brought her to Walt Disney's attention. And the rest, as you've seen, is history. I echo Heidi's request that you check out "Saving Mr. Banks" and "Mary Poppins Returns" I know of no other reactor that's done them. Lovin' your channel, big guy!

James Moyner

Mary Poppins was not the last film before Walt's death. There were several films in production including Jungle Book he was involves with.

Heidi Elizabeth Marcum

Yes... But Walt Disney sadly died before The Jungle Book and any of the rest of them were released to theaters, or even finished. He was sadly never able to see the fruits of his labors. Heidi

Now I see in the comments a couple people have suggested Saving Mr. Banks and Mary Poppins Returns. I would advise against them though because you think Saving would be about the making of the film and seeing how things went with Ms. Travers, but it ia not at all accurate to the actual history because for one Walt had the rights to the story before she came over to supervise the making of the film and when it isn't doing that it is showing a "fanciful" version of Ms. Travers yourh. In regards to Returns the only thing I can strongly recommend ia the songs on their own because not even the cameos of Angela Lansbury and Dick Van Dyke can save ir and to make matters worse they added a villain when there was no need for one. There wasn't one in the first film. That was more of jusr an overworked father who didn't have time for his kids.

Carys

okay? i don't check the comments religiously lol...

Mike Dispo

Saving Mr. Banks takes artistic license as does all biopics based on true people to serve the proper conflict needed for cinema. It does not detract from the fact that the filmmakers utilized the contents of letters of correspondence, phone call logs, and telegrams to write the dialogue between Disney and Travers, replicated Disney's office and the opening night of Mary Poppins accurately, and brought up Disney's chainsmoking habit.

James Moyner

I understand all of that, but that still doesn't make it a good movie. For example when Ms. Travers remarks on Robert Serman using a cane to walk and Richard responds that he was shot and she says "He probably deserved it". That was completely uncalled for because Robert served in the military in World War 2 and that is a line that should have either been cut or have someone say that he got it in the war and make her feel bad for saying it.

Sarah Savala

Oh, this was a joy to watch this with you. Seeing your first-time joy with this Practically Perfect in Every Way movie made my day! Also really fun to hear you attempt to say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious hehe.

If you enjoyed the movie, you should also check out the 1968 film Your, Mines and Ours starring Henry Fonda.
